We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer who is looking for technically inspiring work on cutting-edge projects, to join our established Building Engineering Team in London.

We are looking for an enthusiastic engineer with excellent design, technical, and software skills who enjoys working collaboratively in multi-professional design teams on large UK and international projects, taking design responsibility for projects from inception to completion to achieve outstanding results.
You will be able to demonstrate solid experience in the field of Mechanical Engineering Systems for building services, environmental and sustainable design and applying these skills to UK & International projects.
 

The Opportunity

The role will be closely linked with the architectural and engineering design of a large variety of new and existing building developments, working in close collaboration with the most eminent architectural practices and developers in UK and abroad.  Projects will include the inception, calculation, modelling and design of mechanical engineering systems and environmental design from concept to tender phase, construction, hand over and post-completion evaluation. 

Working closely with the architect and other team members in the development of the building form to align with passive design principles, the goals of the energy and sustainability strategies and the needs of the building services

The position offers great opportunities for interfacing with other disciplines and inspecting the projects on-site during construction and helping clients realise the true performance of their building, with the successful candidate being expected to take a foremost role in developing Building Services designs.


Key responsibilities

  • Driving the mechanical design concepts that encompass the latest design thinking on low energy design, natural ventilation, sustainability and zero carbon.
  • Driving the design analysis with a good understanding of software such as IES and/or TAS, Energy Plus, Design Builder
  • Driving the design of the mechanical building systems including air conditioning, heating, natural and mechanical ventilation and building controls
  • Guiding the spatial and technical co-ordination of the building services and their integration into the building design
  • Managing the production of models, drawings, reports and specifications
  • Supervising and coordinating the work of others and coordinating work with engineers of other disciplines including in-house specialists


Requirements

Essential:

  • Degree qualified in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering, ideally at Masters level as well as chartered or working toward chartership
  • Experience in the field of mechanical building services design
  • Undertaking research and advising on energy use and environmental controls.
  • A willingness to adapt and develop to solve analytical challenges relating to energy usage, temperatures and other relevant engineering parameters, on complex buildings and systems. 
  • Good understanding of dynamic thermal modelling and capable of using or leading the design with one of the widely used software (i.e. IES, TAS, Energy Plus, Design Builder)
  • Experience using and directing design within Revit and digital tools inputting into BIM.


Desirable:

  • Environment, thermal comfort modelling, CFD, solar analysis or other modelling techniques to influence building services or architectural design.
  • Awareness of sustainability, design for performance, SMART Buildings, Net Zero, UK NABERS, wellness and assessment tools such as BREEAM, LEED and WELL.
  • Design code to compute or automate small domain-specific problems, using programming software like Python
