The Opportunity

We have an opportunity for an Associate Mechanical Engineer who is looking for technically stimulating work on cutting-edge projects, to become a permanent member of our creative, friendly Building Engineering Team in London.

You will work on some of the most exciting and innovative buildings across the world. The team are currently involved in projects world-wide from feasibility stage through to practical completion. Current and recent projects include residential and social infrastructure projects such as Ebury Bridge Estate and Canada Water; rail projects such as Sydney Metro, Copenhagen Metro and Euston Station; commercial developments such as 6-8 Bishopsgate, 90 Long Acre; and a variety of projects such as large refurbishments in buildings, residential projects with high sustainability targets and developing and delivering decarbonisation strategies. The focus of our work is split between new build developments and retrofit/refurbishment projects, given the drive towards both increasing sustainable solutions and supporting our clients reduce the carbon impact of their buildings.

Is this role right for you?

You will be guiding and coordinating the design of various projects, taking them from initial brief through scheme & detail design to installation and commissioning support, while providing technical guidance and design management on multi-disciplinary projects. You will also mentor and develop junior colleagues.

In your role in the Group, you will be working alongside colleagues from all over Arup providing the full range of multi-disciplinary services required to deliver major projects. With experience in MEP design you will have the self-assurance to lead your discipline as well as the ability to take on lead roles on projects, including sub-consultants.

Requirements

  • Qualified Mechanical Engineer / Building Services Engineer as well as a Chartered Engineer
  • You should have strong commercial and client facing skills and be able to represent Arup externally. You will be able to direct and deliver bids to secure new work.
  • Experience in directing teams of engineers throughout all stages of design and construction
  • Represented the design and/or discipline team in discussions with the client and contractor
  • Knowledge and interest in sustainable building design in terms of both energy and carbon, challenging yourself and the rest of the design team to achieve the optimum outcome for the project
