In this role, you will take technical ownership of high voltage substation and/or transmission line projects, contributing to the successful delivery of infrastructure that underpins the energy transition in Germany.
The Opportunity
As a Project Lead Engineer – High Voltage Substations and Transmission Lines, you will lead the engineering design and technical delivery of complex energy infrastructure projects across Germany.
You will act as a technical authority throughout the project lifecycle, working closely with TSOs, DSOs, utilities and EPC partners. Coordinating multidisciplinary and international teams, you will ensure that engineering solutions meet the highest standards of quality, safety and compliance with German regulations.
This role offers the opportunity to work on large-scale, technically challenging projects while strengthening your expertise in engineering leadership, stakeholder engagement and innovation within the energy sector.
As a Lead Engineer at Arup, you will:
Lead the engineering design and technical delivery of HV substation projects (AIS / GIS / Hybrid substations) and/or transmission lines
Act as technical authority across project lifecycle
Coordinate international multi-disciplinary engineering teams (primary, secondary, protection & control, civil)
Coordination with clients (TSOs, DSOs, Utilities) and represent the company in technical discussions
Ensure compliance with German standards, grid codes and TABs
Support bids and tenders with concept development, cost estimation, and risk assessment
Provide technical guidance during installation, testing, and commissioning
Drive innovation and standardization within engineering processes
Does this role inspire you?
We are looking for someone proactive and technically strong who is willing to be part of the Energy team in Arup Germany. Ideally, you’ll bring:
Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering or a related discipline.
Minimum 10 years of experience in high voltage substation and/or transmission line engineering.
Proven experience in a lead or senior engineering role within energy infrastructure projects.
Strong experience working with TSOs, DSOs or utilities.
In-depth knowledge of German grid codes, standards and TABs.
Technical expertise in high voltage primary and secondary systems.
Experience in EPC and/or consulting environments is highly desirable.
Familiarity with engineering tools such as AutoCAD, EPLAN, DigSilent or PSCAD is an advantage.
Understanding of the German energy industry and regulatory environment.
Experience with renewable energy integration and BESS is beneficial.
Strong coordination, problem-solving and organisational skills.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
Fluent German (C1) and strong English skills.
