The Opportunity

As Arup continues to expand its energy portfolio across Asia Pacific and beyond, we are strengthening our global delivery capability through a newly established Primary Engineering team in Vietnam. This team plays a critical role in supporting complex energy infrastructure projects across the APAC region and international markets, offering engineers the opportunity to work on landmark HV substation projects while being part of Arup’s long term growth and investment in the region. You will collaborate closely with experienced technical leaders and multidisciplinary teams, contributing to high impact projects that support the global energy transition.

The Primary Engineer is responsible for delivering high quality primary design packages for HV AIS and GIS substations up to 500 kV. This is a hands on technical role suited to an engineer who can independently produce detailed primary design deliverables, working alongside Senior and Lead Primary Engineers to meet project and client requirements. Experience with BIM enabled workflows and 3D design tools will be highly regarded, as Arup continues to advance digital engineering practices across its energy projects.

Your Role

• Deliver HV substation primary designs for AIS and GIS substations, including
   
• Prepare and deliver complete primary design drawing packages, under the technical direction of Senior Primary Engineers
   
• Review and incorporate OEM/vendor technical data and drawings into primary design outputs, with guidance from Senior Engineers where required.
   
• Participate in internal design reviews and multidisciplinary coordination meetings, addressing review comments in revised designs. 
   
• Where applicable, utilise BIM and 3D design tools (e.g. Revit, OpenUtilities, Navisworks) 
   
• Work under the overall technical leadership of Senior / Lead Primary Engineers, while progressively developing towards higher technical responsibility.

Is this role right for you?

• As a suitable candidate for this role you will be able to demonstrate
   
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent. 
   
• 5–10 years’ experience in HV substation engineering, with hands on involvement in primary design delivery. 
   
• Practical experience on AIS and/or GIS substations in the voltage range of 66 kV–500 kV. 
   
• Solid understanding of HV primary equipment
   
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation for engineering drawings.
   
• Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
   
• Good written and spoken English.
