Electrical BIM Designer

Position Summary:
BIM Designers play a critical role in delivering high quality data enriched models and the resulting drawings to our clients. Within the Arup team, this involves overall project planning, detailed design development and coordination between all disciplines, managing and adhering to office/Regional/client BIM standards. BIM Designers are at the forefront of digital production innovations (automation and data accessibility) and must be able to implement new tools on the fly and train others to do the same.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Technical – 45%
- Proficiency in recognized modelling authoring platform – Revit, AutoCAD
- Knowledge of a recognized 3D modelling platform – Rhino, SolidWorks or similar is a plus
- Working knowledge of Electrical design and concept
- Ability to model electrical equipment, fixtures, devices and circuit using Revit commands
- Working knowledge of the BIM Workflow such as BIM Execution Plans, LOD (Level of Development) Matrix, MEA (Model Element Authors) and CDE (Common Data Environment)
- Interest and passion for all aspects of the built environment and how ideas become reality
- Appreciation or proficiency of programming or visual scripting such as Dynamo, Python, Grasshopper
- Proficiency in a recognized Coordination authoring platform or application – Autodesk Forma (formerly called ACC) Model Coordination, Navisworks, Revizto or similar
- Work closely with engineers and designers to create models and drawing sets - documentation and archiving
- Work across disciplines to ensure an overall design fits together and satisfies each discipline’s individual requirements
- Utilize workflows to review BIM models to ensure model data is consistent and compliant with project contractual requirements and model health checks.
- Providing insight from data, developing, and implementing workflows that highlight change management, code compliance and interference checking issues in the project models. Proactively communicating design coordination issues to the design team and implementing their resolution.
Management – 35%
- Ability to organize and prioritize effectively, balance own and other work and work with minimal supervision
- Manage and coordinate BIM project data sets/workflows and project set up
- Utilize workflows to review BIM models to ensure model data is consistent and compliant with project contractual requirements and model health checks
- Providing technical support and mentoring as required for the project team. Cocreate digital inception plans with project managers, host training, onboarding and BIM Kick off sessions and prepare support training documentation
- Champion and promote best practices in BIM project delivery. At the project and regional BIM team level, actively practice and support ongoing improvements to our automation tools, software, and best practice workflows
Communication – 20%
- Communication skills, the ability to communicate ideas, issues, and solutions to design team members and leadership
- Presentation skills, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and team collaboration skills essential for building internal and external client relations
- Knows to work with team but also knows how to work with minimal supervision
- Direct collaboration with the design teams to develop electrical BIM models. Develop logically organized, easy to read accurate construction drawings from the discipline models.
Qualifications Required:
- Professional degree in architecture, electrical or civil engineering, or a technical degree in architectural and engineering drafting
- 5+ years of experience working in the electrical buildings design/construction industry
- Must have excellent knowledge and skill in Electrical modelling and familiarity in Multidiscipline (SMEPF) modelling using Autodesk Revit is an asset.
