Our technical teams address every aspect of civil engineering design, working in close collaboration with the full breadth of Arup’s other design and engineering disciplines.
The opportunity
We're looking for talented Civil Engineers at mid and senior levels to join our Energy, Water and Site Development teams across Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff and Nottingham. We are in exciting times with an exceptionally strong and growing pipeline of work.
In water you would be involved in many of our major frameworks with water utility companies helping to provide reliable, potable water and to safely discharge treated effluent to the environment or helping our national clients overcome the challenges of maintaining existing aging assets and protecting natural ecosystems, whilst solving the increased pressures from climate change.
In energy you would be involved in our major energy projects including the Great Grid Upgrade which is critical to ensuring the de-carbonisation of our electrical supply and achieved net zero for UK.
In site development you will be working across a range of schemes from supporting local property developers through to national and international projects.

Is this role right for you?
We're looking for people who bring a blend of technical expertise, curiosity and collaboration. You'll thrive in this role if you have:
- Experience designing and delivering civil engineering solutions, with a strong technical foundation and a passion for high-quality outcomes. If you have civils engineering design experience from other sectors but are interesting in working in the Water, Energy or Site Development markets then we will help you get develop the skills and experience needed.
- Strong knowledge of relevant design standards, legislation and industry guidance, with the ability to apply them effectively in project delivery.
An understanding of statutory approval processes, including planning, stakeholder engagement and technical approvals.
For Senior and Principal Engineer roles, you'll also bring:
- Experience leading projects, workstreams or teams, driving successful outcomes through effective planning and coordination.
- A passion for developing others through coaching, mentoring and people leadership, helping colleagues thrive and reach their potential.
Experience of one or more of the Water, Energy or Site Development sectors.
It would be beneficial if you also have:
- Working knowledge of industry-standard CAD software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D or MicroStation.
- Experience using civil engineering design tools such InfoDrainage, MicroDrainage or Civil 3D.
Qualifications:
- A qualification in Civil Engineering (or equivalent experience) and a strong track record in the design and delivery of civil engineering projects.
- For Senior and Principal roles we would expect you be Chartered or Incorporated, with a relevant institution, such as the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).
