Arup’s purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for over 75 years, guiding how we shape a better world.  As a world leader in its field, Arup offers the full spectrum of civil engineering consulting services

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Civil / Water Resources Engineer to join our growing team, with a primary focus on hydrology and hydraulic analysis and design. The successful candidate will work on a wide range of projects involving drainage systems, stormwater management, flood hazard assessment and modeling, and water and wastewater utilities, supporting infrastructure, urban development, and resilience projects. This role offers the opportunity to contribute across the full project lifecycle—from planning and feasibility through detailed design and delivery—while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Undertake hydrological and hydraulic analyses for infrastructure and land development projects, including catchment assessments, rainfall‑runoff analysis, and flow routing
  • Design and assess drainage, stormwater management, and water supply systems, including pipes, channels, detention/retention facilities, and nature‑based or low‑impact solutions
  • Perform flood hazard and flood risk assessments, including 1D/2D hydraulic modeling and interpretation of results to inform planning and design decisions
  • Support the design of water supply and wastewater systems, including networks, and associated infrastructure
  • Prepare technical calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical reports in accordance with relevant standards and guidelines
  • Contribute to feasibility studies, options assessments, and concept designs for water‑related infrastructure
  • Coordinate with internal disciplines (e.g., transport, structures, environmental)
  • Support regulatory approvals by preparing documentation and responding to authority comments
  • Apply quality, health, safety, and environmental management procedures in project delivery

Is this role right for you?

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Experience in hydrology and hydraulic engineering, particularly in drainage, stormwater, and flood modeling
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards, guidelines, and design codes
  • Experience using hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software (e.g., HEC‑HMS, HEC‑RAS, EPA‑SWMM, InfoWorks, MIKE, or similar)
  • Experience in water or wastewater utility design
  • Familiarity with GIS software (QGIS/ArcGIS)
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to clearly communicate technical findings
