Water Engineer

Warsaw or Krakow, Poland

Shape a future with purpose at Arup in Poland.

Help deliver resilient, sustainable water solutions that protect communities and enhance the natural environment.

Arup's purpose, shared values and collaborative approach have set us apart for 80 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

Our Water team brings together hydrology, hydraulic modelling and multidisciplinary engineering expertise to address complex water challenges. Working on Polish and international projects, we develop practical, sustainable solutions that strengthen climate resilience, manage flood risk and support responsible development while protecting and enhancing the natural environment.

The Opportunity

This is an opportunity to take a leading technical role in the preparation of water studies, concepts and designs across a diverse project portfolio. You will apply your hydrology and hydraulic modelling expertise to analyse flood risk, develop remedial measures and shape robust solutions for drainage systems, rivers, reservoirs and dams. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders in Poland and internationally, while contributing ideas and digital approaches that improve how we deliver our work.

As a Water Engineer at Arup, you will:

  • Prepare study, concept and design documentation for Polish and international water projects.

  • Undertake hydrological analyses and calculations to support evidence-based project decisions.

  • Assess flood risk and develop practical, sustainable remedial and mitigation measures.

  • Prepare clear, accurate technical drawings and supporting design documentation.

  • Develop, review and apply hydraulic models for drainage systems, rivers, reservoirs and dams.

Does this role inspire you?

We're looking for someone who believes ambitious water projects and sustainable development can go hand in hand with care for, and enhancement of, the natural environment. We also value:

  • A relevant degree in water, environmental engineering, geograpghy, hydraulogy or related discipline.

  • A minimum of six years of professional experience in the water sector, with a strong focus on hydrology and hydraulic modelling.

  • A thorough understanding of complex hydrological processes, with the ability to calculate, interpret and model them effectively.

  • Demonstrated expertise in hydraulic modelling, including a deep understanding of the objectives, assumptions and limitations of model applications.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively and inspire project teams.

  • A proactive, open-minded approach, with confidence to propose new ideas and solutions and an interest in applying digital tools to water engineering.

  • Professional proficiency in both Polish and English.

  • Proficiency in hydraulic and hydrological modelling software, including MIKE, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS and TUFLOW.
