The Opportunity

 

We are looking for a Tunnel Engineer to join our fast-growing Tunnelling team, in our Milan Office, who will deliver local and global projects including the HS2 project in UK, Metro Projects in Australia, California and Denmark, mining projects for energy infrastructures in UK, advisory and technical support to Italian Concessionaires for infrastructures projects. The variety of projects and the internal research opportunities provide a great environment where to develop technical skills in mechanised and traditional tunnelling and the delivery of complex infrastructure projects. 

 

 

As a Tunnel Engineer at Arup, you will:

 

  • Take ownership of design packages.
  • Working directly with clients and other professionals with minimal supervision.
  • Co-ordinating work with engineers of other disciplines.
  • Producing project related correspondence and reports.
  • Providing design calculations and supporting preparation and review of drawings.

 

Does this role inspire you?

 

We're looking for someone who is passionate about challenging design problems and with an interest in innovation and optimisation. The right candidate needs to meet the following requirements: 

 

  • BEng in Civil Engineering or a BSc in Geological Sciences supplemented by an MSc in Engineering Geology/Geotechnical Engineering/Soil Mechanics or Structural Engineering.
  • Working knowledge of industry standard software for tunnelling, geotechnical and structural design.
  • Up to 5 years geotechnical and tunnelling design experience in a consultancy environment.
  • Good experience in numerical analysis.
  • Able to demonstrate strong engineering skills and knowledge.
  • Proven success in contributing to a team-oriented environment.
  • Able to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to meet strict deadlines.
  • Excellent planning, organisational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communications skills (both written and verbal).
  • Highly motivated and willing to take on new challenges.
  • Publication in journals and conferences is encouraged.
  • Fluent in Italian and English
