Arup’s New York City office is seeking an enthusiastic intern to work in person with our Transportation, Logistics, and Urban Planning team. The team works on a dynamic range of projects across multiple specializations, including transportation planning, traffic engineering and simulation, airport landside modeling, pedestrian modeling and analysis, data analytics, wayfinding, master and urban planning, and freight and logistics. You’ll have the opportunity to learn first-hand how our team helps to shape the built environment and solve interesting problems across different sectors – aviation, transit, and urban streets and places. We aim to help shape more sustainable and livable places by applying innovation, creativity, and technical rigor to all of our problems.
We’re seeking candidates that are ready and willing to learn from our engineers and planners in the field of transportation and urban planning. We need a candidate who is excited and motivated to work on different challenges and learn about various disciplines within the team.

The Opportunity
Conducting background research on project study areas, planning strategies and policies
Performing data collection and basic analysis (ie. could include traffic data collection, pedestrian flow analysis, active transportation or transit analyses)
Completing, documenting, and presenting technical analyses using a variety of tools such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerBI, and GIS
Shadowing other staff to assist them with assignments and tasks
Drafting content for technical reports and presentations
Attending team, consultant, and client meetings
Exposure to and learning opportunities using traffic and pedestrian analysis software including Synchro, Highway Capacity Software (HCS), Vissim, Aimsun, and Arup’s pedestrian modeling software MassMotion
Working and coordinating with Arup staff from other disciplines to gain knowledge on new subjects
Is this role right for you?
You’re currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in urban planning, transportation, civil engineering, data science, or a related field
You have a strong interest or passion in urban or transportation planning. You’re interested in helping to solve planning and transportation problems facing our cities, especially in the New York Metro Region
You’re an enthusiastic learner, eager and willing to take the initiative to learn new skills and software, and have strong quantitative analysis skills
You’re proficient with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
You have the ability to prioritize tasks, balance work assignments, and have strong organizational skills
You’re ready to work in a dynamic environment, supporting projects with ever-evolving challenges
You have strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal communications) that are essential for working collaboratively
Must be eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsored work authorization now or in the future.

New York City Hiring Range - The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in New York City is $26.50 to $47.50 per hour. This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of New York City, NY will differ.
