The Opportunity
We have a Transmission and Distribution Design Engineer position in the Energy team in providing Structural design for powerlines and substations as a consultant. Design of substation equipment and line termination gantry structures & Cable Sealing Ends. Design powerlines with PLS-CADD and powerline towers with PLS-Tower.
The role will include Sag & tension calculations; - Catenary Support System design; - Line Profiling; - Gantry analysis; - Tower setting levels; - Environmental loads; - Insulator set design; - Overhead Line Wire Clearance; - Route plans; - Material Quantification - Short Circuit Analysis.
You will get involved with the Design of powerline structural foundations, including piled, pad, and rock-anchor foundations. You will carry out the Investigation and proposed remedial actions for damaged or corroded structures: corroded structures (remaining life and remedial action): Substation structures; Power line structures (11kV to 400kV); Structural loading. Foundation design, including field testing. Stays and anchors. Cross-Arm design. You'll also lead and mentor graduate and experienced engineers.
This role will involve the preparation and checking of feasibility studies, outline and detailed design technical reports and other written documents. - The design and checking of detail allocation and construction design drawings and the Production of design concepts, drawings, specifications, and other technical documents.
This position will be based in the Johannesburg Office (flexible home working) and integrated within a wider Energy team based in South Africa.

Is this role right for you?
You will have -
· A BSc or BEng, PR.Eng Masters is advantageous.
· A Candidate Registered with ECSA
· Good project delivery experience
· An Understanding of International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and South African National Standards (SANS) standards
· Proficiency in associated technical specifications from clients such as Eskom/NTCSA or others.
