Role

Our Madrid office is looking for an Engineering or Geography student to support our team based in Madrid. The selected individual will participate in the preparation of various transportation planning studies for a broad portfolio of projects. You will also have the opportunity to participate in overall transportation planning and the development of transportation models.

This position is ideal for an enthusiastic and dynamic person with good computer skills and a desire to work on demanding projects.

Our projects are interdisciplinary in nature, combining the knowledge, skills and passions of transport planners, modelling specialists and engineers, making Arup's services unique in the global market. Specifically, the candidate will be involved in the following functions:

  • Collaboration in the construction and simulation of transportation models. Data collection, network coding and demand analysis. Learning to use traffic simulation programs, such as Vissim, Aimsun, TransCAD, Visum
  • Support in pedestrian modelling projects. Creation of the geometric model, demand coding, users, etc. Learning to use pedestrian simulation programs such as MassMotion and/or Legion
  • Participation in projects to evaluate transportation alternatives, mobility plans, and traffic and mobility studies
  • Analyze examples of national and international best practices to identify innovative and applicable solutions
  • Support in the preparation of presentations and reports related to transportation studies and traffic modelling work carried outs
  • Have a positive attitude and work as a team. Have initiative and responsibility, as well as have good customer relations and excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Be self-motivated, eager to learn and experience new challenges every day

Minimum requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor´s Degree, Master in Civil Engineering, Transportation specialty, Bachelor´s Degree in Geography, Urban Planning or a related field
  • Advanced use of the Office package (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • High level of English (C1)

Assessable requirements

  • Desire to improve transportation systems and desire to learn
  • Numerical and analytical inclination, with good computer knowledge
  • Have experience in other representation tools such as:
    o  GIS knowledge
    o   Traffic simulation software: VISSIM, VISUM, Aimsun, or similar
    o   Programming: Python
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing the results of analysis and modeling
  • Any other knowledge of languages ​​will be positively valued
  • Previous experience in the sector will be valuable but not essential

Conditions

  • Be enrolled in the university to be able to establish an agreement with the University
  • Immediate incorporation
  • Duration: 6 months of extendable internship (possibility of joining after completing the internship)
  • Schedule: From 20 to 40 hours per week to be defined with the student
  • Remuneration: will depend on the student's level of training and the number of hours established
