Arup's Digital Technology group is home to the Design Driven Collaboration (DDC) team, a creative and user-focused group dedicated to improving how people interact with digital products, services and information. Bringing together UX researchers, designers and technical writers, we champion evidence-based design and clear communication to ensure our products are useful, usable and accessible. We work across Arup's global portfolio of digital solutions, helping teams transform complex processes into intuitive experiences that deliver value for colleagues and clients alike. As a Technical Writer within the Design Driven Collaboration (DDC) team, you will play a key role in helping colleagues and clients understand and adopt Arup's digital products and services. Working alongside UI/UX designers, UX writers, UX researchers and graphic designers, you will transform complex technical information into clear, accessible and user-centred content. Our team specialises in helping users navigate complexity through thoughtful design, research and communication.
What is unique about the role - what’s in it for you?
· This role offers exposure to a wide range of products, technologies and engineering disciplines across Arup. You will take ownership of documentation for one or more digital products, creating and maintaining user guides, online help, learning resources and interface content that help users get the most value from our software.
· Working as part of Agile product teams, you will collaborate with developers, designers, researchers and subject-matter experts to communicate complex information clearly and effectively. You'll contribute throughout the product lifecycle, from discovery through to continuous improvement, ensuring content remains accurate, accessible and user-focused.

What are the key responsibilities of the role?
· Own and maintain documentation, guidance and learning resources for one or more digital products and services.
· Translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise and user-centred content for a range of audiences.
· Collaborate with developers, designers, researchers and subject-matter experts throughout the product lifecycle.
· Advise product teams on content requirements and contribute to content-related decisions that improve the user experience.
· Contribute to discovery, design and continuous improvement activities to ensure content meets user needs and supports product adoption.
· Create and maintain user guides, online help, release notes, interface content and knowledge resources.
· Champion documentation standards, accessibility and content best practice.
· Identify opportunities to improve documentation processes, tools and ways of working, including the responsible use of AI.
A typical day:
· No two days are the same. You might start the day by attending a product team stand-up, then meet with developers or subject-matter experts to understand a new feature. Later, you could be creating user guides, refining interface content, producing release notes, or reviewing documentation to ensure it is clear, accessible and aligned with user needs. You may also collaborate with designers and researchers during discovery activities, help identify content improvements, or explore new approaches to documentation and knowledge sharing. Throughout the day, you'll work closely with colleagues across different disciplines, contributing to the successful delivery and adoption of digital products.
