The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Technical Project Manager to join our Assets Consulting team. In this role, you will lead the delivery of projects within agreed budgets and timelines, working closely with multidisciplinary teams and clients. You will also be responsible for managing, guiding, and developing junior staff. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in leading technical transport-related projects and providing advisory services to public and private sector clients.
Assets Consulting
Arup’s Assets Consulting team delivers smarter, more sustainable infrastructure solutions across Ireland and beyond. Our team of approximately 35 specialists brings together expertise in civil and electronic engineering, software and web development, technical project management, and transport advisory. We work with clients, primarily in the transport sector, to achieve operational and strategic objectives by managing, operating, maintaining, renewing, and enhancing large infrastructure assets. Our services span strategy development, planning, design, and implementation, as well as supporting maintenance contract management for transportation and digital systems. Our work addresses challenges in Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), tolling, road user charging, smart cities, traffic signal design, C-ITS, and Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs). We also advise on pricing and payments, data-sharing platforms, future mobility planning, and electromobility.
Based within Arup Ireland’s 100-person Advisory and Digital Services group, we collaborate with clients locally and internationally, combining deep technical expertise with a passion for solving complex challenges. As a Technical Project Manager, you will contribute to projects that blend engineering, technology, and human-centered design, helping clients interpret complex data and deliver impactful transport solutions that shape communities and improve lives.
As a Technical Project Manager at Arup, you will:
- Lead projects that deliver high-quality, practical advice and innovative solutions to meet client needs and address complex technical challenges
- Take ownership of project delivery, ensuring objectives related to scope, budget, schedule, and quality are met
- Validate project objectives, assumptions, and proposed activities against agreed goals
- Prepare and manage key project documentation, including execution plans, governance records, procurement strategies, and risk registers
- Engage and manage stakeholders, ensuring alignment between client expectations and project outcomes
- Contribute to the growth and development of the wider team
- Support ad-hoc analysis, training, and project tasks as required
Does this role inspire you?
We are recruiting for mid-level and senior grades, so experience requirements will vary. You should have:
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Engineering or a related discipline
- A minimum of 7 years’ experience in the design, delivery, project management, and/or operation of technical infrastructure, engineering, transport, tolling, or intelligent mobility systems projects
- Candidates with greater experience will be considered for more senior roles, as relevant
Attributes & Skills:
- Strong technical expertise or demonstrated interest in one or more of the following: Infrastructure design, Intelligent mobility, Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), Tolling, Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs)
- Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences
- Working toward or achieved chartership with a relevant professional body
- A blend of practical and theoretical project management knowledge
- Proven project management skills across:
- Scope, time, cost, quality, resources, communications, risk, issues, and procurement
- Experience working in multidisciplinary project teams
- Familiarity with digital tools and techniques for analysis, reporting, and management of complex projects
- Professional certifications such as PMP, PRINCE2, or AIPM Certified Practicing Project Manager are an advantage
- Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Strong planning, organizational, and analytical abilities
