Primary Focus:

The Technical Integrator – Primary / Civil is responsible for the effective technical integration of primary electrical plant and civil/structural design within substation projects. The role ensures that primary equipment layouts, foundations, structures, earthing, access, and constructability requirements are fully coordinated, technically compliant, and optimised across all design stages. Acting as the key interface between primary electrical, civil/structural, geotechnical, and construction disciplines, the role ensures design intent is translated into practical, safe, and buildable outcomes that meet client standards, regulatory obligations, and project scope.

The Opportunity:

  • Accountable for the delivery of significant and complex activities or projects. This role will require the accurate prediction and planning for future resources;
  • Represent Arup at internal and external meetings;
  • Taking a longer-term strategic view of the business, this role contributes to the development plan of Arup;
  • Executing management responsibilities as outlined in Arup’s Management System
  • May be involved in setting budgets; as such this role would be responsible for negotiating agreements with customers and/or suppliers in order to achieve financial targets.

Is this role right for you?

  • Qualifications & accreditation: Degree in Electrical (Power), Civil/Structural, or related discipline; CPEng (Engineers Australia) and/or relevant state registration (e.g. RPEV) strongly preferred, with demonstrated technical authority and design accountability.
  • Substation integration experience: 10+ years delivering HV substation projects across concept, detailed design, and construction support, with deep experience integrating primary plant layouts with civil, structural, earthing, access, and constructability requirements.
  • Technical leadership & compliance: Proven lead role in managing primary–civil interfaces, resolving spatial and constructability risks, and ensuring compliance with AS 2067, AS/NZS 3000, AS 1170, utility standards, and WHS-by-design obligations.
  • Delivery & stakeholder capability: Strong capability coordinating multidisciplinary teams and engaging with clients, OEMs, reviewers, and contractors, reviewing and endorsing integrated deliverables, and managing design change to minimise cost, schedule, and rework risk.
  • Strong technical integration capability, with the judgement and authority to manage complex primary electrical–civil/structural interfaces in HV substation projects, resolving spatial, constructability, and compliance challenges pragmatically and proactively.
    Advanced knowledge of Australian utility standards, WHS by design principles, and applicable codes, with the ability to interpret requirements, identify interface risks early, and apply sound engineering judgement to deliver compliant, buildable solutions.
