Technical Director - Highways

The Highways Technical Director is a key role in the Victorian Highways team and will be responsible for leading and developing highways/roads technical skills across the state and region.

The role will focus on:

  • Developing a team with breadth of skill and backgrounds to be able to deliver large scale complex projects in Australia.
  • Project leadership responsible for ensuring technically excellent project outcomes which are delivered in accordance with contract requirements, to program, on budget and of the highest technical quality while maintaining client confidence.
  • Leading project teams and driving the success of project delivery for large scale multidisciplinary linear infrastructure projects.
  • Fostering technical excellence and innovation.
  • You will be accountable for significant and complex activities on major projects, representing Arup at internal and external meetings, maximising the relationships developed with clients.
  • As a senior leader, you will take a longer-term strategic view of the business and contribute to the development of the technical design team.

 About you

A Senior Leader with significant years’ experience in civil engineering design and project management in Major Highways infrastructure projects. You have achieved a qualification in Civil Engineering and have the following experience:

  • Technical Design review for major Highways projects and a passion for technical excellence.
  • Experience in managing projects of various size, complexity for government clients.
  • You are comfortable being involved through the different stages of the project lifecycle.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills that enable you to successfully engage, motivate and inspire people to work towards delivering successful projects.
  • Membership of relevant professional institutions/professional peer bodies or significant credit towards eligibility for membership.
  • Ability to communicate with people at all levels in both technical and non-technical environments.
  • Effective written communication and report writing skills.
  • Ability to remain positively motivated and foster team spirit at times of significant pressure, with a particular focus on developing and mentoring technical design staff.
  • An interest in promoting sustainability solutions in the Highways and Linear Transport Sector, contributing actively to our SDG commitments and creating a sustainable future.
