The role  

We have an exciting opportunity for a systems analyst to join the team and work on the development, testing and support of Arup’s finance systems. As a key member of the team, you will be working closely with finance users and accountants and so will need a good understanding of accounting concepts and be able to work with developers to translate business requirements into viable system solutions. You will also be responsible for the testing and QA of developed software and processes.

The role requires regular contact with internal and external stakeholders so you should be comfortable communicating with individuals at all levels, providing a consistently high level of customer experience throughout. 

The role reports to the finance systems service leader who is based in London.

Responsibilities of the role include: 

  • Own and deliver key financial business solutions
  • Assist with the development of the firms accounting and finance reporting systems
  • Design new updates / changes by analysing requirements; constructing workflow charts and diagrams; studying system capabilities; writing specifications; testing
  • Create and maintain system/process documentation
  • Define requirements for integration solutions with other applications and technology platforms
  • Work collaboratively with finance staff, engineers, other analysts, service leaders, operations managers, vendors, architects, and other colleagues across Digital Technology
  • Support month-end closing procedures e.g. respond quickly to issues or queries raised by finance users, investigate reconciliation differences
  • Provide 3rd-line support for Arup’s finance systems by responding to and managing support requests via ServiceNow
  • Review and contribute to documentation relevant to services e.g. design, service transition to support, standard operating procedures, SLAs, OLAs
  • Maintain user confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential
  • Coordinate installation and maintenance work with outside vendors as needed
  • Ensure adherence to security requirements and report security issues where appropriate

Requirements and skills 

Essential skills and knowledge:

  • Relevant experience working as a systems analyst in a finance environment
  • Good understanding of accounting concepts e.g. project accounting, invoice and expenses
  • Experience working with finance and non-finance stakeholders to gather requirements and help shape future processes and system design
  • Ability to interpret technical system intricacies to non-technical business users
  • Knowledge of SQL e.g. ability to read and interpret PLSQL queries, functions and procedures and write own queries to extract data from multiple database sources for analysis and investigation
  • Strong team working skills with ability to build trusted relationships with people and groups with diverse backgrounds 
  • Good analytic skills, with ability to solve complex problems and openness in sharing your knowledge and thinking with others 
  • Strong editorial and quality assurance skills 

Desirable: 

  • ITIL qualified and/or good familiarity with IT service management processes 
  • Experience working with third party managed services and support providers
