We are seeking a Sustainable Design Leader to help us grow our sustainable buildings design offering across our Americas Region. We are looking for a growth-oriented seller-doer who can help us win work and deliver projects as a multi-disciplinary Project Director. You will be working with other regional leaders to help align strategies and position Arup to win work in the buildings design space. You will become part of the Regional CSSP team and work from the Los Angeles office which sits in the West Geography.
The Opportunity
- Use your sustainability expertise and design experience to drive better project outcomes with our clients, by focusing on the ways in which design can impact sustainable building performance.
- Work as a seller-doer-grower to bring state-of-the-practice sustainability expertise to our projects, so that Arup is differentiated in the delivery of SMEP+ work and the projects are differentiated in ways that our clients find valuable.
- You will be expected to write bids, support business development and project positioning efforts and win work.
- Participate in the development of the regional annual business plan by setting strategic direction for sustainable design practice on building projects work in the Americas region.
- Deliver climate & sustainability services on Arup multidisciplinary projects across the Americas region as a Project Director, Project Manager or sustainability lead.
- Be part of the leadership team for Climate and Sustainability Services across the region, collaborating with other service + domain experts and service leadership. This includes business development activity and participation in people leadership and skill development.
- Lead bids for the climate & sustainability services component of building design projects across the region.
- Lead business development and market connections for climate & sustainability services for building design in the region.
- Help us recruit, develop and retain sustainable building design professionals for our major offices across region.
- Develop sustainable strategies for building projects that deliver value for the clients and communicate these to clients and project teams.
- Contribute to growing the annual revenues associated with climate & sustainability services on building design projects in line with our strategic target markets and annual business plans.

Is this role right for you?
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Architecture, Engineering, or Planning.
- 20 or more years of experience in delivery of sustainable design solutions for the built environment.
- Specialist knowledge in one of the following sub-sectors – sustainable buildings, sustainability strategy, circular economy, decarbonization or health and wellness.
- Professional Licensure or accreditation in appropriate field (PMP, AICP, LEED, PE, RA).
- Demonstrated leadership experience in climate and sustainability design services pointed at the built environment.
- Commercial/finance skills and ability to develop fee proposals, with experience acting as a project manager / project director on prior building design projects.
- Team building and mentorship skills.

The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in Los Angeles is $260,000 to 310,000 per year. This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of Los Angeles will differ.
