We have an opportunity for a Structural Technician to join our creative and friendly North-West and Yorkshire Building Engineering Group in our Liverpool Office. Our team have worked on an array of amazing projects including various Arenas and Stadia, Education Facilities, Labs, Residential and Retail projects.  

A small selection of our live projects are: 

- The Paterson Redevelopment Project – A research facility on-site for The Christie, Cancer Research and The University of Manchester.  

- The Heart of the City II, Sheffield – A broad range of mixed-use buildings re-shaping the centre of Sheffield 

- The University of Salford – New Science and Engineering Building.  

- Leonardo Hotel - Manchester 

- Weir Mill – A new build and refurbishment residential project in Stockport. 

- and various exciting projects on the horizon….

The Role 

Based in Liverpool, but working closely with all the Structural BIM Team across the NW&Y you will:  

  • Get to work on prestigious and challenging projects in various sectors. 
  • Become a valued member of a highly experienced team. 
  • Take day-to-day responsibility for BIM delivery for the Liverpool structures team’s projects 
  • Support the team in producing high quality 3D models and drawings. 
  • Manage BIM and Drawing packages on projects through to completion.  
  • Mentor junior BIM staff and engineers working in the BIM environment 
  • Coordinate and liaise with the other disciplines internally and externally to the firm. 
  • Have an opportunity to train and further develop your BIM and Digital capability. 

Skills / Experience Required for the Role 

  • Experience in the industry, ideally some of this within a design consultancy. 
  • Proven experience in drawing production to a high standard. 
  • Proven understanding of structural design principles. 
  • Proven experience of working on buildings projects of various scales and complexity. 
  • An understanding of reinforcement detailing principles. 
  • An understanding of steel fabrication principles. 
  • Experience in delivering projects to defined BIM Standards. 
  • Have achieved EngTech with ICE or IStructE, or be committed to working toward this immediately upon successful appointment.  

Software Expertise 

Must be a highly proficient user of Revit. Those with experience using other BIM tools will be considered for this role but should be willing to learn how to use Revit.  

An ability to use Navisworks, Solibri or other BIM coordination/collaboration software 

An ability to use other CAD/BIM software, i.e. AutoCAD, Civil3D, Microstation, Rhino.

Continues to develop own skills and knowledge. 

Desirable Skills and Knowledge 

Ideally able to review and implement the requirements of a BIM execution plan and other contractual BIM documentation.  

Experience in computational design, i.e. use of Dynamo and/or Grasshopper or similar. 

Software development experience and/or an ability to author/edit code in any language. 

An enthusiasm, awareness and/or ability to use the various mixed reality tools, VR, AR, MR. Hardware and software such as Enscape, Unity, Oculus, Vive.  

Site experience. 

An ability to detail reinforced concrete in 2D or 3D.  

Experience working with common data environments. 

Experience in using cloud-based BIM issue management and coordination platforms.
