The Opportunity
Our award winning Business and Investor Advisory (BIA) team are recruiting a Senior Strategy and Economics Consultant to join the team in London on a hybrid basis! Typical projects undertaken within the BIA group include providing commercial, technical and financial advice to financial investors, funders, developers and international finance institutions and provide economic and commercial strategic advice to energy companies, utilities, regulators and governments.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high quality economic, policy and strategy advice to our clients across a range of projects in the areas of energy (electricity and gas) and/or water. Therefore you should have commercial/economic or regulatory/policy experience within the energy field. The primary responsibilities of the post includes delivering project work including policy and regulatory advice, strategic advice and commercial due diligence; developing and maintaining client relationships, securing work and overseeing project delivery.
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering projects to a range of public and private sector clients. Responsibilities include:
- Undertaking economic analysis.
- Support delivery of high quality outputs to clients.
- Contributing to the development of Arup’s modelling and economic tools.
- Preparing and overseeing proposals to secure work.
- Developing Arup’s ‘thought leadership’ position within the energy/infrastructure sector.
Projects may range from research studies, due diligence reports, market assessment, asset evaluation, policy and regulatory advice, business case development, economic appraisal and policy design. Project work will require a range of quantitative skills from handing and presenting data to economic modelling, specifically contributing to cost benefit analysis.
Is this role right for you?
The successful candidate will have previous experience in economic analysis, economic / energy modelling, and providing advice to public or private organisations based on economic research and analysis. We would expect the candidate to have knowledge and experience of energy and other regulated utilities and understanding of policy design and market structure although the candidate will need to have the ability to apply economic concepts across a variety of fields and sectors, and be able to take the economics analysis and suggest the best analytical approaches. You will have a background in managing and delivering projects, including the ability to manage multi-disciplinary teams of consultants.
Requirements:
Through their professional background and any relevant academic background applicants should be able to demonstrate:
- Core understanding and experience of the energy markets and infrastructure.
- Experience in policy and regulatory advice development.
- Experience in the private sector investment environment beneficial but not necessary, including commercial due diligence for M&A transactions.
- Knowledge of both Excel and PowerPoint as tools to undertake and present analysis.
- A strong interest and proven capability in business development and client engagement.
