As a Senior Engineer/Consultant in the NSW/ACT Water Team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of integrated water management across Australia, with an emphasis on creating better futures for Australian waterways. You will be supported by a talented team of Engineers, Consultants, and Specialists to deliver key projects for Sydney Water and drive the growth of our water-related project pipeline. This role will be responsible for providing technical direction on projects in relation to integrated water and natural resource management, this could include business cases, environmental assessments, design development and strategic planning services.
The water industry of Australia is currently lacking the critical mass of individuals necessary to tackle the challenges facing Australia from the perspective of water into the future. In addition to the responsibilities and opportunities outlined above, the successful applicant for this role will be expected to contribute to the growth of the Australian water industry. This role will furnish you with the opportunity to provide influence and innovation to the broader water resources industry today for better outcomes tomorrow.

The Opportunity
• Lead the delivery of complex water management projects, ensuring alignment with project objectives and client requirements.
• Manage and grow client relationships, with a focus on Sydney Water and other stakeholders across NSW.
• Oversee project resources, budgets, and timelines, ensuring projects are delivered efficiently and to the highest quality standards.
• Take the lead in business development activities, preparing proposals and presentations, and identifying new opportunities.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
• Contribute to the growth and excellence of the water industry of Australia through innovation within Arup, our client organisations and the broader body of professionals in the industry.

Is this role right for you?
• Tertiary qualifications in Environmental or Civil Engineering (or related field) with relevant experience in water resources/Integrated Water Management within a consulting business environment.
• A strong technical foundation in hydrology/catchment modelling, water-sensitive urban design, and modelling software (TUFLOW FV/Source, TUFLOW Catch, MUSIC, MIKE).
• Proven project management experience, including planning, budgeting, and execution of water management projects.
• Knowledge of integrated water management principles, practices, and limitations, including water, nutrient, and energy balance.
• Ability to help formulate project scope, and help guide client direction of planning projects
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage with stakeholders and lead cross-functional teams.
• A strategic mindset and a strong ability to identify and pursue new business opportunities while maintaining a focus on delivering quality results.
• A strong desire to bring positive change to the Australian water industry.
• A passion for Australian waterways and the values they contribute to communities.
