The Opportunity
We have an opportunity for a Senior Vertical Transportation Engineer who can grow and steer our team’s offering in the modernisation, refurbishment and re-use market. We can offer technically stimulating work on a massive variety of projects and for you to become a permanent member of our diverse and friendly specialist discipline within the Building Engineering team in London.
Sustainability is core to our business, and as such we are looking for someone who can grow and lead the organisation’s offering in the modernisation, refurbishment and re-use market. You will play a key role in developing this offering and up-skilling others.
You will be working on some of the most interesting and innovative buildings across the world with leading architects. The team are currently involved with over 100 projects world-wide from concept design through to practical completion.
Current and recent projects include residential and social infrastructure projects including Ebury Bridge Estate and Canada Water Regeneration; rail projects such as Euston Station, HS2, Sydney Metro; airport projects including Heathrow and Singapore Changi; commercial developments such as 70 Gracechurch Street, 8 Bishopsgate and 90 Long Acre; universities like UC L and LSE; healthcare facilities such as the new Moorfields/UCL Eye Hospital (Oriel) and a variety of unique projects such as the Sagrada Familia and the new Museum of London. The wider team are involved with a variety of refurbishment projects, including commercial buildings of various sizes and railway stations to enable their expansion and route to decarbonisation.
The role will comprise of the following:
- Being actively involved in leading and guiding the design and delivery of the VT systems using all aspects of your skills, as well as communicating with the project team, clients and external collaborators.
- Working to grow the organisation’s offering and technical expertise in the modernisation and refurbishment market and contribute to business development and bids.
- Supervising and coordinating the work of others, including other disciplines and in-house specialists, and providing technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced members of the team.
- Undertaking project and team administration duties including planning and monitoring the time of others and managing the production of reports and specifications to budgets and deadlines

Is this role right for you?
We’re looking for a candidate who:
- Has experience assessing existing equipment age/ condition and making recommendations on modernisation/replacement strategies to most effectively achieve project aims.
- Has experience in the design of high rise buildings
- Has a strong understanding of codes and standards relevant to lifts including: EN81 (all parts), BS9999, BS8899, BS7255. Knowledge of previous standards ( e.g. EN81-1/2) would be advantageous.
- Is proficient in Elevate or other lift traffic analysis software, with a good understanding of running traffic simulations in a variety of building types.
