The Opportunity

Our specialist tunnelling team works across a range of engineering disciplines and applies advanced analysis techniques, combined with practical design, operational and site experience. We provide support to clients throughout the project life cycle, from the planning and feasibility stages through to commissioning, operation, refurbishment, and upgrade of tunnel infrastructure. 

We are expanding our team to meet growing demands from our extensive Client base, particularly in the infrastructure and energy sectors. Current areas of demand include railways, highways, water, waste storage, mining, carbon capture, renewable energy (hydropower), trenchless tunnelling and other tunnel engineering. 

 

Is This role for you?

·       Develop and expand Arup's tunnelling capability by leveraging technical design skills, innovative techniques, and industry best practices. 

·       Manage bidding and project management activities, ensuring effective communication with clients and teams. 

·       Developing your own network of business contacts to contribute to the growth of the tlling team. 

·       Mentoring of early career team members and provide guidance, motivational and directional feedback to team members 

·       Represent Arup at internal and external meetings, providing technical expertise and guidance.

 

Requirements

A person who is a good fit for the role will have: 

·       A good academic background (ideally MSc or equivalent) with Chartered status in civil or geotechnical/structural engineering. 

·       Excellent technical skills and the ability to develop and lead tunnelling design teams for projects. 

·       Project management – Managing projects, understanding client needs, and effective communication for work planning and commercial management. 

·       Proven tunnelling design experience for various types of tunnelling methodologies such as TBM, SCL, NATM, D&B and micro tunnelling using international design code (Eurocode, ACI). Proven tunnelling design experience with industry standard numerical modelling software that could consider soil-structure interaction (e.g. FLAC or PLAXIS or Midas or similar).   

·       Proven design experience using automation is a benefit (such as python) in application of CDM Regulations to the design. 

·       Excellent communication skills and confidence to liaise with clients.  Excellent report writing skills with the ability to self-check and produce accurate work. 

·       A willingness to travel on short assignments both within the UK and overseas.
