The Opportunity 

The Cities Planning & Design team is seeking an engaged Senior Transport Planner with a travel behaviour change and demand management background to work closely with Arup's UK and Global Travel Behaviour Change leads. The Cities Planning & Design portfolio is made up of passionate planners, designers, and analysts working together closely on diverse and challenging projects. Our current projects include work for public and private sector clients on major developments and infrastructure schemes, shared and active mobility, multi-modal connectivity, transportation decarbonisation, and data analytics. We are seeing an increase in exciting project opportunities across travel behaviour change and demand management both nationally and internationally. This role will support the team to enhance our offer and capitalise further on opportunities.

You will be responsible for the project management and technical delivery of influencing travel behaviour and demand management projects. This could include national, regional and local travel demand management strategy development such as designing and implementing travel behaviour change programmes e.g. travel planning, social prescribing, school streets, congestion management, road user pricing etc. You will also support the production of modal shift strategies and programmes that aim to influence sustainable travel behaviours, to manage inputs on major projects such as rail infrastructure schemes, airport expansion projects or public transport system design guidelines for our clients.

Is this role right for you?

You should have knowledge of behaviour change and demand management principals and how to achieve outcomes through their application in order manage travel behaviour projects for our clients. You should be an advocate of data-led decision-making approach with the ability to collate and interpret a wide range of information to solve complex sustainable mobility challenges. We would like you to have knowledge of relevant social and customer insights that could affect demand and the ability to interrogate and understand customer personas, and be able to translate complex technical information and priorities into outputs for a variety of audiences with proven experience in utilising GIS and other data visualisation software.

We have team members throughout the UK and are flexible with which Arup office you choose to work from on a hybrid basis. 

Requirements:

  • Numeracy and analytic skills in a transport planning context.
  • The ability to produce high-quality reports and presentations.
  • Thorough understanding of National policies affecting travel behaviour change and demand management across the UK.
  • Proven track record in project management, including mentoring junior team members.
