Our Americas West Planning team is seeking a creative and experienced Senior Transportation Engineer. This position will be open for candidates living in or willing to relocate to Los Angeles or the San Francisco Bay Area.

We are a team of passionate planners, designers, and analysts working together closely on diverse and challenging projects. Sharing expertise and inspiring others are critical to the development of all members of the team. Our transportation projects include work for the public and private sectors on transit network and operations planning for bus, rail, and on-demand services, stations and mobility hubs, shared and active mobility, complete streets, transportation electrification, demand forecasting, and data analytics. 

 Responsibilities: 

  • Manage planning projects in the scope of Arup’s work including public transit, traffic, street design, master planning, and these projects’ influence on land use, sustainability and resilience. 
  • Manage preparation of high-quality, visually distinctive project deliverables, including print and web documentation and presentations. 
  • Prepare and deliver presentations for internal and external meetings representing Arup to clients and local communities. 
  • Support business development efforts to secure planning work and build client relationships. Leveraging connections with professional colleagues, developing marketing leads, preparing marketing proposals and materials. 
  • You will deliver high-quality projects, undertaking financial management and being responsible for client relationships, and management of subcontractors. 
  • Upskill junior staff in technical software such as Vissim, Synchro, FME, Python, GIS, CAD or similar.
  • Manage junior staff participating in project work 

 Qualifications:   

  • Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transport Engineering, or closely related discipline. 
  • 10-15 years progressively responsible professional experience. 
  • Professional leadership demonstrated by publications, committee memberships, professional presentations or other activities. 
  • A California PE, PTP, PTOE, or equivalent certification is strongly preferred. 
  • Experience managing projects with CEQA requirements, traffic capacity analysis, and micro simulation. Travel demand modeling is desirable.

  • Creativity in intellectual and technical approach 
  • Subject matter expert in transportation and/or traffic engineering
  • Experience working with public and private sector clients
