We are looking for an experienced Senior Planner to be based in Yorkshire to join our planning team. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing planning applications for infrastructure projects, to manage an increasing portfolio of complex water schemes through our multi-year framework with Yorkshire Water and a range of Development Consent Orders (DCOs) on water and energy projects. This is an opportunity to work on a wide range of projects, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and engaging with clients and stakeholders.

A Senior Planner will be responsible for delivering a diverse range of projects within the planning team. A Senior Planner will be confident in coordinating multidisciplinary teams, advising clients on complex planning matters, and leading the day-to-day delivery of a project (e.g. preparing a planning application, drafting reports / advice and meeting with clients and key stakeholders) in accordance with a client’s objectives and programme. This role could include management of Development Consent Orders and planning applications.

At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Is this role right for you?

We provide a holistic service to meet the aspirations and needs of developers, communities, local planning authorities, combined authorities and central government. You will have the opportunity to work across a portfolio of projects that includes energy, water, transport and aviation projects. Your role will involve:

  • Coordinating multi-disciplinary teams to secure consent for infrastructure projects, including through DCOs and planning applications. Including coordinating teams in appraisal development proposals including site appraisals, policy reviews and optioneering reviews.

  • Supporting proposals, business development and the growth of our infrastructure offer.

  • Designing and delivering consultation, engagement and stakeholder workshops and mentor colleagues and contribute to an inclusive, collaborative team.

We are seeking an individual with good knowledge of planning and environmental legislation, policy and procedures, with a strong track record of experience on complex TCPA consents and / or DCOs, including dealing confidently with a range of stakeholders. You will also have the following:

  • Degree and/or masters in town planning or similar equivalent degree and Chartered membership of RTPI or equivalent professional body.

  • Able to work within multi-disciplinary and multi-consultant team, including close working with EIA consultants.

  • Project management skills, including programme and commercial aspects.

  • Ability and ideally experience of working with a range of client bodies, including both private sector (promoters of infrastructure, utility companies and developers) and public sector (central and/or local government).

  • Enjoy translating complex evidence into clear, practical policy; value collaborative, multidisciplinary working; and want to influence the future of places across the UK.
