Arup is seeking a Senior Sustainability Consultant to join its dynamic and growing team in New York City to lead and handle a wide array of sustainability projects ranging from net zero buildings through to corporate ESG strategy. You will contribute to and manage several concurrent projects pertaining to: design and assessment of new and existing buildings; analysis of energy and resource flows; GHG emission analysis; coordination of sustainability assessments and benchmarking of building projects, portfolios, campuses, and cities. You will also work on projects which focus on the development of climate impact mitigation and resilience strategies. The role will challenge you to work across interdisciplinary teams with a wide range of client types.
The role seeks an individual with a strong combination of technical, strategic, and management thinking as well as effective communication skills across mediums. In this role, you'd be , contribute to the design of energy/water/waste systems, lead sustainability assessment workshops, source energy & resource efficiency ideas, identify and analyze alternatives, quantify sustainability impacts using life-cycle analysis and other metrics help develop spreadsheet or coding-based analyses , prepare written summaries of work for clients, present on process and findings to technical and non-technical audiences, attend client meetings, and assist with or lead proposals. Your experience and capability will determine the breadth of your responsibility.
Your Qualifications and Experience:
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Energy, Environmental Science, Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, Engineering or a closely related field. A Master’s degree in a similar field is preferred
- Have 6 or more years of relevant work experience with a consistent track record
- Hold a CEM, PE, AIA and/or LEED accreditation
- Building and/or community design and engineering experience, including identification, analysis and selection of appropriate integrated strategies;
- Sustainability assessment of projects in the built environment using at least one of the following frameworks: LEED, WELL, ENVISION, and/or other GBCI rating systems
- Climate change related policy and services action development – including GHG mitigation and climate adaptation
- Cost & benefit analysis over a project life cycle to support decision-making
- Assessment and estimation of energy & resource efficiency potential;
- Community or building scale energy engineering, distributed or centralized (including district energy system and microgrids);
- Sustainability codes and standards development and implementation
- Integrated systems planning; energy, transportation, water, waste, materials.
- Experience with project budgeting, cost tracking, and interdisciplinary team management.
- Proposal development and management
Strong candidates will also be able to demonstrate experience in:
- Be able to evaluate renewable energy options for projects and assessment of available incentive programs
- Community or campus energy systems distributed or centralized including district energy system and microgrids;
- ESG frameworks, reporting and planning

- Outstanding leadership and communication skills, including writing, presenting, and workshop leading
- Outstanding skills in integrated analytical problem solving
- Superior ability in the use of the following software: the full MS Office suite, specialized software & protocols
- Strong understanding of energy, water, waste and resource technologies
- Strong familiarity with triple bottom line cost-effectiveness thinking and analysis
- Strong knowledge of policy and economic issues related to climate change
- Strong multi-tasking and project management skills

NYC hiring range - The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in New York City is $96,500 to $130,000 per year. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of NYC will differ.
