Senior Structural Engineer

Istanbul, Türkiye

Shape a future with purpose at Arup in Istanbul.

Arup's purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for 80 years, guiding how we shape a better world. We guide, plan and design the future of the built environment.

We are a global consultancy with extensive technical and advisory expertise. Our structural engineering team in Türkiye works across an ambitious and varied portfolio, from complex building structures to large-scale infrastructure combining rigorous engineering with innovative, sustainable design.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Structural Engineer to join our Structural Engineering Group in Istanbul or Ankara and contribute to a wide range of challenging local and international projects. You will bring strong technical capability and sound engineering judgement to deliver innovative, sustainable, and resilient structures, working closely with multidisciplinary teams across architecture, geotechnics, MEP, and more.

As a Senior Structural Engineer at Arup, you will:

  • Deliver structural design end-to-end — carrying out 3D modelling, structural analysis, and design for a variety of building and infrastructure projects, preparing engineering calculations, technical reports, and design documentation across all project stages.

  • Ensure design quality by reviewing structural drawings and deliverables prior to submission, applying local and international design codes and standards throughout the design process.

  • Develop innovative structural solutions that are practical, buildable, and technically robust — contributing your engineering judgement from concept through to construction.

  • Support seismic and retrofit work — assessing the seismic performance of existing structures and contributing to retrofit design studies, including site visits and visual inspections of ongoing and existing buildings where required.

  • Coordinate across disciplines — working effectively with multidisciplinary design teams, clients, and project stakeholders to ensure technical coherence and strong project outcomes.

  • Mentor and develop junior engineers, supporting their technical and professional growth and contributing to a high-performing, collaborative team culture.

Does this role inspire you?

We are looking for an experienced structural engineer with strong technical capability, sound engineering judgement, and a commitment to design excellence. We value candidates who bring the following:

  • Academic foundation: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or equivalent; Master's degree in Structural Engineering and/or Earthquake Engineering, or equivalent professional qualification and experience.

  • Proven professional experience: Minimum 8 years in structural engineering design, with demonstrable capability across reinforced concrete and/or steel structures.

  • Technical software proficiency: Working knowledge of structural analysis and design software such as SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE, or similar; standard office and drafting tools including MS Office and CAD. Knowledge of programming or scripting languages is an advantage.

  • Code and standards expertise: Strong knowledge of the Turkish Building Earthquake Code 2018 and familiarity with relevant international structural design codes; experience in steel structure design and/or seismic performance assessment and retrofit design is a strong advantage.

  • Communication and collaboration: Strong professional proficiency in English and Turkish (written and spoken); proven ability to coordinate, present, and deliver effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.

  • Work eligibility: Willingness to travel nationally and internationally as required by project needs. Candidates must have the right to work in Türkiye at the time of application.
