Position Overview:
We are currently seeking a Senior Social Consultant to provide socially sensitive and sustainable solutions to unique engineering challenges.
The Social Consultant position will be with the Environmental Consulting | Sustainable Investment Advisory (SIA) team in Bogotá, Colombia. The position will work to continue developing and growing the business in Colombia and the Americas South Geography, and work in close collaboration with the Advisory team in San Francisco, Houston, New York and the Americas Region. The SIA advisory team is a center of excellence at Arup, supporting the acceleration of sustainable, resilient, and inclusive investments, securing access to sustainable infrastructure. This position will be part of Arup’s global multi-disciplinary Advisory team characterized by deep sustainability expertise. We apply international sustainability frameworks to address our client’s critical issues and develop inventive, creative, and practical solutions that finally will allow society to thrive and deliver more sustainable infrastructure.

The opportunity:
- Identify and develop innovative solutions to social impacts and risks.
- Independently evaluate, select, and apply domestic and international E&S (environmental & social) standards related to FPIC’s (free, prior, and informed consents), resettlement and land acquisition processes, grievances mechanisms, stakeholder engagement, archeological surveys, and labor & work conditions.
- Coordinate and consult with local regulatory agencies on scope and impact of projects when necessary.
- Attend meetings with clients to address their needs and discuss social and environmental issues.
- Carry out field visits and verify compliance with environmental and social standards.
- Manage and produce proposals and reports, including for E&S Due Diligence and Monitoring processes in Colombia and Latin America.
- Ensure quality of deliverables
- Mentor junior colleagues with a focus on developing excellence in social consulting
- Plan and conduct business development activities
The skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, Sociology, Economics, Political Science or any Social Science-related profession required
- Minimum 10 years of professional experience in infrastructure projects (roads, energy, rail, ports, urban etc.) or environmental management required.
- Demonstrated experience consulting with communities (managing consultation processes, citizen participation, resettlement processes, and/or social impacts and management measures)
- Knowledge of international and national regulatory frameworks.
- Excellent communication skills essential for team-based working.
- Must possess excellent written, verbal, presentation and communication skills with colleagues and clients of all levels in English and Spanish.
