The Risk & Resilience team creates new services and digital tools from cutting edge technologies and methods to advance Arup into new markets which usher in a safer, healthier and resilient future. We are a multi-disciplinary team with deep technical expertise in the built environment and a passion for increasing the resilience of communities. We can virtually simulate almost anything in the built environment, utilizing the best of risk modeling and digital innovation to predict the physical, financial and social impacts of natural hazards.
As a Senior Consultant | Climate Risk and Resilience based in Bogota, Colombia, you will work in climate-related physical risk and adaptation and support our mission to help shape a better world and to simulate our clients’ resilient futures. You will work alongside a team of multi-hazard risk specialists across multiple Arup offices in the Americas to develop solutions to complex problems. Through your work, you will help to advance and implement cutting-edge methods that keep Arup at the forefront of our industry.
The opportunity
Key responsibilities for the role include:
• Undertake, deliver, and manage qualitative and quantitative risk assessments for multiple hazards, mainly hydrometeorological, including rainfall, flood, sea level rise, wind, extreme temperature, and climate change.
• Undertake hazard analysis for multiple hazards, including climate change analysis and apply methods to incorporate climate change into hazard models.
• Support the development of risk reduction, climate adaptation, and resilience strategies for building and infrastructure projects and portfolios, corporations/institutions, and cities/communities.
• Employ and develop automation scripts and GIS-based processes for risk models.
• Collaborate with others within the firm on projects that can benefit from your expertise.
Is this role right for you?
Required
• Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering (water, hydraulics, hydrology), Climate Sciences or similar.
• Atleast 6 years of experience in practice or research
• Strong skills in GIS tools, e.g., ArcGIS.
• Strong skills in hydrologic and hydraulic modelling techniques
• Basic understanding of computer programming and coding experience to enable hazard and/or engineering risk calculations and results postprocessing / visualization.
• Interest in understanding physical risk and improving the resilience of assets in the built environment considering different hazards.
• Familiarity with one or more hazards such as wind, wildfire, flood, sea level rise, heat, climate change, etc.
• Understanding of climate science, climate change models and downscaling.
• Proficiency in English and Spanish
Preferred
• A MS or PhD in engineering, science, or risk management is preferred.
• Familiarity with probabilistic risk modeling concepts and methodologies
• Understanding of factors which influence the resilience of buildings and other physical infrastructure, organizations, and communities.
• Expertise and understanding of vulnerability and risk assessment methods for utility and transit networks.
• Probabilistic risk modeling and familiarity with methodologies such as FEMA P-58 and HAZUS, or similar
• Experience developing cost-benefit analyses across a range of risk reduction or resilience strategies
• Experience with p managing projects, including technical guidance, staff management, and coordination of project budgets
