About you

Arup have a fantastic opportunity for a motivated, enthusiastic and experienced Senior Rail Planner with a specialist background in operational rail planning encompassing operational performance testing (timetabling and infrastructure) to join the team in Queensland.

In short you will be a proactive, solutions focussed Senior Rail Planner with a solid appreciation and awareness of major transport issues and understanding of key sector drivers, with an active interest in the wider transport planning agenda.

 

You can set your own goals and realisable, realistic targets for others. You are supportive, motivational and able to deliver results. Able to hold your own, and/or support others when required. You will be looking to be involved in and actively contribute to a range of exciting and varied projects as a specialist discipline leader or as part of wider project team.

 

You will bring great communication skills (written and verbal) complemented by excellent inter-personal skills to enable you to interact effectively at all levels in both technical and non-technical environments. Able to build successful relationships and networks to identify opportunities and actively contribute to business development strategies and goals.  

Profile for success:

  • Recognised relevant tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Planning, Transport or similar
  • Minimum of 8 years relevant industry experience
  • Membership of relevant professional institutions/professional peer bodies preferred
  • Proven working knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice, standards and guidelines.
  • Proficient in the use of at least one rail operational modelling software (e.g. RailSys, OpenTrack etc.) is desirable.
  • Experience of broader rail engineering, transport planning or specialist knowledge is desirable, such as strategic modelling, pedestrian modelling, or economic and financial appraisal.

 

About the role

Arup, have been successful in growing their rail planning business across the region and have secured a number of long-term commissions both locally and regionally. This role will represent the Arup Rail Planning team across our existing major projects in Queensland and across the region and play a key role in working with our regional leadership in rail planning to continue to grow our rail planning business in Queensland and the wider region.

In this role your responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • The cohesive management, direction and execution of projects either as a Project Manager or as a discipline lead on varying rail projects across different offices, groups and sectors to support positive outcomes for the Rail Planning Team and Arup as a whole
  • In collaboration with the regional Rail Planning leadership and wider group, you will actively contribute to business and client development strategies and plans to further extend our presence and win projects for the local and regional Rail Planning group 
  • As a senior team member, you may be responsible for the performance and development of others; overseeing, guiding, training and motivating others (including direct or indirect reports)  to deliver positive project results and outcomes.
  • You will play an active role in building internal capacity within Arup’s skills networks, contributing to the skill development and knowledge sharing of the firm
  • You may be involved in setting budgets; as such you would be responsible for negotiating agreements with customers and suppliers to achieve financial targets.
