We are seeking an experienced Senior Rail Planner for our Queensland region, with rail planning and operations expertise and a strong background working alongside rail client teams in Queensland. In this role, you will support the Queensland Rail Planning Lead to help drive the continued growth and development of our expanding Rail Planning business. You will represent our Rail Planning team within Queensland, with a focus on SEQ, while contributing to the successful delivery of major projects across the Australasia and Asia Pacific region.
The Opportunity
· Play a role in the growth of Arup’s Rail Planning business in Queensland, building on recent success and a strong pipeline of long‑term commissions.
· Work closely with QLD rail clients, representing the Arup Rail Planning team in both internal and external forums.
· Lead and deliver rail planning and operations advice across major projects in QLD and the wider Australasia / Asia‑Pacific region.
· Take a strategic, longer‑term view of rail planning, contributing to the development of capability, skills and knowledge across the business.
· Manage and support rail planning resources, including planners, modellers, graduates, sub‑consultants and contractors, to deliver high‑quality project outcomes.
· Actively influence the performance and development of junior staff through mentoring, guidance and skills development.
· Contribute to commercial performance, including budget setting, negotiating agreements with clients and suppliers, and delivering projects in line with Arup’s Quality Management System.
· Build and maintain relationships with clients, industry peers, regulators and internal stakeholders across Arup’s Australasian Rail Planning business.

Is this role right for you?
· You are an experienced rail planning and operations specialist with substantial knowledge of rail systems, capacity, performance and operations across passenger and freight networks in Australia.
· You bring a strong understanding of the Queensland rail environment, with broader experience across other rail networks considered an advantage.
· You have strong technical capability across rail planning, operations, capacity and performance, timetabling, infrastructure and rolling stock, supported by experience in business cases, feasibility studies and project appraisal.
· You bring solid commercial awareness, with an understanding of fees, budgets, contracts and the delivery of cost‑effective solutions for clients.
· You have excellent communication skills and can confidently explain complex technical concepts to a wide range of audiences, both technical and non‑technical, and are comfortable presenting to senior clients.
· You are self-driven and collaborative, comfortable working across teams, offices and disciplines, and motivated to support the development of others.
· You are organised and outcomes‑focused, able to manage competing priorities, deadlines and resources effectively.
· You hold relevant tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Planning, Transport or a related field, with a strong professional reputation and a minimum of six years’ relevant industry experience in Australia.
