About this role
Do you find purpose in connecting the digital with the physical world? We have a fantastic opportunity for a motivated Senior Rail Engineer to join our vibrant and enthusiastic team based in Melbourne. You will focus on current and future Rail Projects and other infrastructure work. Every day you will have the opportunity to push boundaries and create new possibilities for our clients. What will I do? 

• Coordinate with rail systems specialists such as DC Overhead Line Engineering, signalling, track, utilities, geotech and civil structures; 
• Accountable for significant and complex activities or projects including predicting and planning future resources; 
• Have a longer-term strategic view of the business and contribute to the development plan of Arup; 
• Support mentoring and development of junior engineers, co-ordinate across disciplines to ensure the Electrical design is integrated into the broader design; and 
• Potentially involved with setting budgets including negotiating agreements with customers and suppliers in order to achieve financial targets. 

What will I bring?

• Recognised relevant tertiary qualifications in electrical engineering or similar area including significant industry experience in HV Electrical Engineering across a range of medium to large scale projects; 
• Demonstrated understanding of: 
  • General electrical design such as LV design and HV substations 
  • 1500V DC and 25kV AC traction system design 
  • Essential Services Distribution System design 
  • Knowledge of Earthing & bonding and Electrolysis, particularly in the DC traction system 
  • Substation design and key interfaces. 
  • DC overhead wiring design interface 
  • Interface with other key rail disciplines 
• Ability to remain positively motivated and foster team spirit at times of significant pressure, including assisting others to meet deadlines; 
• Strong communication skills with people at all levels in both technical and non-technical environments; and 
• Desire to excel and thrive in a team based environment.
