The role

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Project Manager to join our established and growing rail business. You will be part of a diverse collaborative team responsible for the successful delivery of our project and programme management commissions throughout the infrastructure lifecycle for major clients including Network Rail, HS2, Train Operators, TfL and others. There is also the potential to lead and support projects in other infrastructure sectors such as energy, water and aviation.

We are looking for a Senior Project Manager with excellent technical knowledge and experience to join us and become an integral part of our London based team. You will bring a desire to deliver meaningful work with successful outcomes for our clients through innovative solutions.

The role of a Senior Project Manager will be to drive, challenge and successfully deliver complex strategic and operational rail projects using best practice PPM knowledge and advisory skills.  

Your typical activities will include:

•    Being the day-to-day project manager on a range of large and small infrastructure projects and programmes.
•    Helping find new work opportunities with current and new clients, developing client relationships and working on bids.
•    Supporting the development of new service offerings.
•    Working as part of a team to deliver commissions to a high standard of quality, and client satisfaction.
•    Ensuring commissions are delivered to a high standard of quality, and client satisfaction.
•    Identifying and mitigating reputational and commercial risks to Arup.

Requirements and skills

You will be able to demonstrate your understanding, skill, and experience in the following areas:

•    An interest in working in the rail sector and a three to seven years of transferable or actual rail sector work experience.
•    Knowledge of project and / or programme management.
•    Being in a team managing moderately complex projects. Leading one or two other people.
•    Able to assess real world project scenarios in line with your experience and plan a course of action that will deliver the required project outcomes.
•    Able to get work done through others by supervising the work of juniors and briefing senior staff on the input required from them.
•    Involved in development of junior staff. Using your network to achieve desired outcomes.
•    Recognised by the client as a good performer.
•    Contributes to the production of bids.
•    Draws on ideas from diverse experiences to contribute to developing or delivering new client services.
•    You will also be able to demonstrate one or more of the following:

-    Project team role in digital change programme.
-    Project team role in the development or delivery of advisory client services.
-    Contribution to delivering projects incorporating sustainable development outcomes.

People skills

You will be able to demonstrate to following people skills:

•    Shares and demonstrates the Arup corporate values.
•    Works collaboratively. Behaves more altruistically than egoistically.
•    Not asking permission to lead while seeking buy-in and respecting the needs for proper governance.
•    Confident communicator both written and verbal.
•    A proven ability to influence peers and Managers.
•    Self-Awareness understanding your own development areas and biases.
•    Aware of own impact on others and shows behaviours that support equality, diversity, and inclusion.

Technical skills and qualifications

•    NVQ Four or equivalent in a relevant subject.
•    Working towards Chartered professional in relevant profession.
•    Working towards achieving professional qualifications in Project and Programme Management e.g. AMP PPQ or ChPP.
