The role

This is an opportunity for a senior project manager to join project management assignments within our Programme and Project Management (PPM) team in Midlands Campus.

The role will provide an opportunity to: 

•    Significantly enhance the post-holders’ own project management and technical skills;
•    Develop best-practice project management solutions within the team;
•    Identify and pursue new project opportunities and areas of business activity for the team;
•    Support and identify digital innovations to support development of future service offering;
•    Responsible for PMO controls architecture on projects;
•    Lead and consult on challenging projects in highly complex industries;
•    Supporting bidding / winning work activities, initiating projects, formation of project team to satisfactorily deliver and ensure overall client satisfaction;
•    Likely to be responsible for a number of junior PMs and should be able to demonstrate ability to manage priorities across a variety of demanding client needs.
Assignments are mainly project management focused where we support our Client from business case right through to implementation for large capital projects. A typical role would include developing and leading the Project Management Office (PMO) and processes in a client environment. This includes responsibility of team building, team working and leadership in the role.
The role holder will report to the Energy Sector leader within the PPM Midlands. They will be required to be integrate into project delivery teams and work closely with technical discipline leaders, other Arup teams and other consultants / contractors as required.

Requirements and skills

•    Five plus years’ experience of project management support, such as a PMO, for highly complex projects, with a background in the energy market, ideally with experience in HVDC Energy projects (offshore wind, electricity interconnectors, CCS, thermal, nuclear) or large-scale infrastructure projects. Experience in offshore projects would be considered favorably but is not an essential requirement.
•    Due to expanding services supporting renewables, distributed energy projects, as well as advisory services relating to regulation or policy matters, skills and experience in these areas would be looked upon favourably but are not essential requirements.
•    Experience in commercial management, contract management and / or procurement.
•    A deep understanding of project management (PMO) functions is essential.
•    Strong experience of data analysis and reporting.
•    Strong interest in adopting new technologies and methods of work to improve existing workflows and processes. We would look favourably on candidates who have an appreciation and / or experience of implementing digital solutions.
•    Strong planning and organising skills.
•    Highly motivated to lead on exciting and challenging large projects.
•    Able to work under minimal supervision and manage a team of junior Project Managers.
•    Excellent communication skills.
•    Demonstrable ability to work in an integrated project team.
•    Strong logical decision-making skills.
