The Role 

We are seeking an experienced senior project manager to join our global delivery team in the Digital Technology Group. You will be responsible for delivering a range of change-related projects and programmes as part of a prioritised delivery portfolio. Our technology projects underpin Arup’s digital strategy, which is focused on data, products and automation. We’re looking for someone who is passionate about project management and delivering business change, with strong interpersonal and communications skills. The role will be based in our Toronto office and will be part of a geographically diverse, remote team. You might sometimes need to travel to other offices.

The role reports to the head of delivery.

Responsibilities of the role include

  • Managing the successful delivery of a variety of software or infrastructure projects – you could be managing up to three projects at a time
  • Managing the delivery of cloud related projects, including transitioning services to the cloud and exiting from collocated data centres
  • Ensuring an effective governance model is in place to support project delivery
  • Working with a varied set of global stakeholders and developing strong relationships
  • Articulating sound business cases, with clearly defined measurable business outcomes and benefits
  • Producing detailed plans and project related documents
  • Engaging in business change activities to make sure projects are successfully adopted and benefits realised
  • Working closely with the project and technical specialist teams to make sure business needs are understood and delivered by the project
  • Engaging in commercial and procurement activities, demonstrating a commercial mindset
  • Overseeing delivery of agreed management products and technical deliverables as defined within the business case, scope and governance of the project

Requirements and skills

  • More than 5 years’ experience of delivering projects, ideally as a senior project manager, with the experience of managing multiple projects at once
  • Demonstrable skills and experience with both agile and waterfall methodologies across a varied portfolio
  • Successful track record in delivering complex global technology projects and cloud migrations
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to accommodate different points of view of various stakeholders, across technical and business teams, to find common solutions and achieve business outcomes and benefits
  • Strong team working skills with ability to build trusted relationships with people and groups with diverse backgrounds, and to influence at all levels
  • Good skills in problem, issue, risk and change management
  • Good ability to assess risk, resolve problems, negotiate and influence
  • Adept with project management software (such as MS Project) and kanban-related products


  • Performed the role of a scrum-master
  • Performed in a programme management capacity
  • Able to continuously improve project delivery documents and methodologies
  • A strong commercial mindset to drive value for Arup

  • A professional PM accreditation such as PRINCE2 / PRINCE2 Agile / PMP / MSP / MoR
