Senior Project Manager
To be part of the professional Programme and Project Management (PPM) Team, based either in our Cork or Dublin office delivering project and programme management commissions for our clients. This client-facing role involves managing delivery of commissions being delivered both by Arup and by other professional firms. The role will involve:
- Leading the effective and efficient delivery of commissions, managing the performance of the technical team consisting of both internal and external project team resources, in full compliance with Arup Management System (AMS) requirements.
- Managing stakeholders and the client expectations and relationship.
- Delivering work to a high standard of client satisfaction and profitably for Arup.
- Mentoring of support PPM staff.
- Prospecting for new work, identifying opportunities with current and new clients, developing client relationships and leading major bids.
- Developing new service offerings.
- Winning new work and clients.
Person Specification – technical/experience
- A high calibre and experienced Professional Project Manager, ideally (but not a pre-requisite) with a technical background with the clear potential to develop.
- Minimum of a first degree and chartered qualification in engineering, construction or related field (or relevant equivalent qualification).
- Internationally certified project management qualification, such as IPMA, APM PQ, or equivalent.
- Demonstrable project management experience having successfully led teams on design and/or construction of building and/or infrastructure programmes/projects.
- Several years on site construction supervision or management experience will be an advantage.
- Experience of delivering projects from a client project management perspective. Value of project should be at least €50m construction cost, or >€100m for a programme of projects.
- Demonstrable experience of working closely with the design team in their development and delivery of the optimum design solution to meet the client’s brief.
- Evidence of solid achievement and career development in project and programme management within the infrastructure sector supported by references.
- Knowledge of infrastructure market regulation.
- Experience of business development for consulting services in infrastructure markets.
- Sound knowledge of developments and drivers in the sector.
- Good commercial and contractual awareness.
- Experience of administering construction contracts.
- Strong client and stakeholder relationship management skills and experience.

- Maintains good communications with clients, keeping them regularly appraised of the progress of their projects.
- Able to report progress and answer questions accordingly and write monthly reports.
- Ensures line manager is kept informed about key issues.
Project Delivery:
Programme
- Agrees the overall project programme in conjunction with client and Arup in-house planners.
- Sets the programme for each major phase of work.
Design
- Manages professional team to deliver correct elements to programme.
- Ensures that the design meets the client’s requirements.
- Escalates issues as appropriate.
Cost
- Manages the processes involved in estimating, budgeting, and controlling costs.
- Manages the change control procedure.
Delivery
- Oversees the progress of the Contractor and that he delivers to programme.
- Takes action to resolve problems.
- Escalates issues as appropriate.
- Handover.
- Prepares the handover plan, communicates this to the client.
- Manages the handover of completed facilities to clients.
Other
- Manages risk that facilitates communication to others.
- Author’s monthly client reports identifying key issues, matters for resolution and provides a clear and effective mechanism for exception reporting.
Contracts/ compliance:
- Procures the project team in accordance with client requirements.
- Developing and managing the team.
- Ensures the project team works in accordance with all regulatory standards.
- Manages the procurement process.
- Administers the construction and professional services contracts on behalf of the client.
- Manages procedures to deliver the required quality at all stages of the project.
- Facilitates risk workshops, manages the risk register and ensures actions are closed out.
