About the Role
Arup is seeking a Senior Project / Design Manager based in our Infrastructure group in Sydney. The primary focus of the position is to undertake project and design management related activities within the rail business with opportunities to have a leading role on other infrastructure related projects covering highways, aviation and maritime. 

In addition, and in conjunction with other senior members of the rail team, this role will include supporting rail infrastructure projects and support the development of the rail team’s capability, and consequential business growth in rail services

This exciting role will see you own and deliver projects and bring fresh ideas to enhance the way we work.
You should be technically strong, able to work independently and as part of a team, energised to assist with our digital transformation, driven towards better sustainable designs and motivated to help reduce effects from climate change.

Responsibilities include:

  • Undertake day to day project management duties for current ongoing projects and future projects
  • With guidance, manage and assist rail engineers to undertake project management of internal Arup projects
  • Be involved with business development-related activities, and developing relationships, with new and existing clients
  • Undertake other assigned technical project management activities as needed
  • Provide project and program management services for projects being undertaken by the Infrastructure group
  • Lead (under the guidance of the relevant project director) the project management input on such projects, ensuring work quality is maintained at the expected standard
  • You will be responsible for scheduling work to meet deadlines, setting and monitoring budgets and resourcing and controlling expenditure to meet financial targets on your projects
  • Prepare and maintain Intranet Project Plans (IPP), resourcing profiles and project reports for clients summarising key issues and strategically advising on best outcomes.
  • Extend relationships with existing key clients to enable an expansion of business opportunities for the rail team, and (where appropriate) other business groups within the region.
  • Assist in preparing and delivery of tender submissions and presentations.
  • You will be responsible for executing responsibilities as outlined in Arup’s Quality Management System.
  • You will represent Arup at internal and external meetings and events and you may be responsible for designing and delivering events, activities and projects which impact the business
  • You may be responsible for the performance and development of others through providing guidance, training, direction and feedback.
  • You will take a longer term strategic view of the business and contribute to the development plan of Arup

About You:

  • Recognised tertiary qualifications in relevant field.
  • Membership of relevant professional institutions/professional peer bodies.
  • Having acquired or being substantially progressed in gaining professional accreditation (i.e. chartership) in relevant field.
  • Significant industry experience in rail design within a consulting business environment.
  • Success in effectively leading rail projects of varying sizes including the management of multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Sound experience in building client relationships, including the ability to translate opportunities into a profitable workload.
  • Proven working knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice, and guideline
  • Ability to relate and work well with people at all levels within the team and within the wider office, as well as externally with clients.
  • Keen understanding of “customer” needs (both internal and external), and the issues which may impact on maintaining effectiveness within a commercial environment.
  • Ability to maintain personal effectiveness, team and client relationships, both under normal circumstances, and at times of increased pressure.
  • Ability to remain positively motivated and foster team spirit at times of significant pressure, including assisting others to meet deadlines;
  • Keen sense of maintaining high standards and desire to excel.
