The Opportunity 

We are looking for candidates with experience of Process/Chemical engineering design on multi-disciplinary projects within the water and / or clean energy sector. With our depth and breadth of skills our team is currently involved in many exciting projects across the Energy, Water and Resources sectors.  Whilst the team is based across our Leeds and Manchester offices, much of our work is involves supporting projects across the UK and globally integrating with other Arup teams across the globe.

These senior roles will involve coordination of the work of others and liaison with engineers of other disciplines, sharing your knowledge and experiences. You will at times be working in highly regulated sectors, working within a gated design and project delivery process. You will be involved in the development of process deliverables such as mass balances, PFDs, P&IDs and data sheets.

Is this role right for you?

As a senior engineer you are likely to have experience of feasibility studies, developing concept and detailed designs , and experience of working in or leading process engineering teams to ensure production of deliverables to agreed timelines and within budget. 

You will also be involved in the report writing and the development of fee proposals, feasibility studies of plant operating and capital costs. We would expect you to have a practical understanding of how your designs will be implemented, and experience of digital approaches to solve our problems including the relevant current analysis and design software.

We operate an enviable graduate training scheme which is accredited by the IChemE and as a senior engineer you may join the mentoring programme and help to shape our future pipeline of process engineers.

We are interested in speaking to Engineers with experience/skills in the following: 

  • Wastewater & Clean water treatment systems design: Knowledge of water and wastewater analysis along with awareness of UK water-related regulatory frameworks or;
  • Renewable energy generation; Carbon capture and storage/reuse technologies; Hydrogen generation via innovative methods; Downstream processing of hydrogen to e-fuels; Ammonia production and storage; Gas separation systems;  Mass flow energy storage;
  • Design of biosolids handing, treatment and disposal, and biogas handling and upgrading.
  • Awareness and practise of process safety in the areas of DSEAR, HazOp and COSHH.
  • Experience of using Biowin and/or GPS-X modelling packages.
  • Appreciation of batch processes, formulation, packaging technologies, sterile, aseptic, non-sterile environments

In addition to your technical skills, we need people who have the following attributes: Demonstrable experience of working collaboratively with colleagues, and with external collaborators ; Able to build and grow relationships with clients; Demonstrate project management skills, delegating work and managing budgets; Experience of digital approaches to solve our problems including the relevant current analysis and design software  and a good understanding of CDM, and how we can help the health safety and wellbeing of those affected by our work.
