The Opportunity...

We require a Senior or Principal Heritage Consultant to join the Historic Environment team, based at One Centenary Way in Birmingham; this is a full-time permanent role. The role sits within the multidisciplinary Climate and Sustainability Services team that currently comprises almost 50 members in the Midlands and 360 across the UK.  Our projects are located throughout the UK, and the role will require occasional travel to other Arup offices and for project related activities.

The role will be include providing expert advice to clients, scoping, designing and managing the delivery of projects, acting as technical guide when undertaking historic environment chapters of EIAs, reviewing and developing others in the team.  You will be expected to give clear, consistent and considered advice to colleagues across a wide range of disciplines to achieve project objectives. This role requires you to have Full UK Driving License as you will be travelling to locations beyond the Midlands Region.

Accountable for contributing to, undertaking and directing project elements from Historic Environment DBA, Historic Environment chapters of Environmental Statements, through to feasibility, due diligence, engaging with key stakeholders and curators, and the design and monitoring of archaeological surveys.

Is this role right for you?

We are looking for people with:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and/or master’s degree in Archaeology or related subject; and Membership (ACIfA minimum, MCIfA preferred) of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists.
  • Knowledge of the UK legislative framework and policy and its practical application to projects affecting the historic environment.
  • An appreciation of undertaking Historic Environment DBA.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of authoring Environmental Statement chapters.
  • Assured user of GIS (ArcGIS preferred) and dataset manipulation.
