The Opportunity 

An opportunity for a Senior People & Change consultant has become available within our Advisory services team with the choice of being based out of either our Manchester, Leeds or Glasgow offices. 

We are looking for a Senior consultant to apply in-depth knowledge and specialist skills in leading and managing the delivery of a range of client projects across any of the following technical areas (team effectiveness & collaboration, leadership & capability, culture & organisational change, operating model & organisation development).

You will be responsible for providing strategic direction to the team by clearly understanding and connecting their work with other workstreams and the broader goals of the project. As a leader of complex teams or functional areas, you will set standards, define quality expectations, and offer both technical and people management support to team members. You will also lead project planning and scoping, outlining complete projects or activities and identifying the necessary resources, such as time, people, and skills. A strong focus on commercial discipline is essential to ensure projects deliver commercially in line with Arup's business plan.

This role involves closely liaising with key client stakeholders to facilitate the delivery of set project outcomes. It also includes contributing to business development by identifying work opportunities within existing client relationships and developing compelling, winning proposals and pitch documents. Drawing on relevant theories and evidence-based practices, you'll lead the design and delivery of organisational diagnostics workshops while reviewing, analyzing, and reporting on clients' organisational behaviour and cultural landscapes. By applying knowledge of organisational change theories and practices, you'll make strategic recommendations to address client challenges. Additionally, you'll lead a team of consultants to develop and deliver end-to-end transformational programmes. Your expertise will contribute to the development of methodologies, tools, thought leadership papers, and the People & Change community of practice and Operations Consulting skills network.

Is this role right for you?

The successful candidate will typically hold a degree and/or extensive experience in people and change consulting.  You will be a Chartered Member with a relevant institute such as British Psychology Society (BPS) or Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (CIPD).  Master’s degree in the behavioural or management sciences field, e.g. occupational psychology, organisational behaviour, organisational design, MBA would be desirable.

Candidates should typically have experience in a consulting or in-house environment, with expertise in at least two of the following areas: team effectiveness and collaboration, leadership and capability, culture and organisational change, operating model and organisation development.

We are seeking the following skills and attributes:

  • Strong commercial acumen
  • Project management and delivery skills, including financial and risk management
  • Capability in developing business proposals for clients, by understanding client requirements and drawing together expertise from across a multi-disciplinary firm
  • Able to work collaboratively with clients and multi-disciplinary teams to help shape and deliver the best solution
  • Ability to demonstrate a methodological and creative approach to decision-making even in an ambiguous environment
  • A collaborative style of working that fosters innovation and team working

Experience in one or more of the following markets: Manufacturing, Rail, Highways, Energy, Aviation and/or Water would be highly desirable but not essential.
