Joining Arup

Arup is shaping offshore wind developments for clients around the world – from the east coast of the US to south-east Asia. Our support spans the full lifecycle, from early feasibility studies to technical reviews, to designing foundations for turbines depending on location, digital asset and performance management tools, applying our industry knowledge as one team.  We support offshore wind programmes from start to finish. As well as structural design, we provide initial strategic advice, technical due diligence to investors, and expertise on setting up new business models and asset extension.  In many areas of the world, offshore wind is still a new industry and only just beginning to scale up, so we’re helping clients to develop strategic alliances within local supply chains and expand into new markets.

‘Watch this short clip to discover how Arup are shaping a better world and how you could be a part of it!’

The Opportunity

In support of our journey towards becoming a recognised global leader in offshore wind Arup currently has an exciting opportunity for a senior structural design engineer to join our established and growing offshore wind design team. You will deliver project designs for our clients, with a focus on the structural design of offshore wind foundations where a deep understanding of our client’s objectives is critical to your success. As a competence centre within Arup for offshore wind engineering, our highly skilled UK team supports projects across the UK, Europe, APAC and the US, working with many of the major developers in the industry.

You will be able to use existing and create new processes for efficient design, including automation and digitalisation. The role requires core technical skills in the sequentially coupled load analysis procedure for offshore wind sub-structure design, including the ability to critically assess and extend current methods and tools and seek out opportunities for continuous improvement. Although the focus of the role is technical you will have the opportunity to grow in other areas that you enjoy or would like to explore, such as project management, colleague training, bid management and service innovation.

Is this role right for you?

A person who is a good fit for the role will have:

  • Qualification in civil / structural / mechanical engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience within the offshore wind industry, preferably of delivering FEED and detailed design of offshore wind turbine sub-structures, with a focus on either primary or secondary steel design.
  • Expert knowledge of offshore wind design codes and can confidently present and discuss design approaches with our clients and certification companies.
  • Excellent knowledge of structural mechanics, structural dynamics and hydrodynamics.
  • Adaptable and collaborative working approach, with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent working knowledge of one or more typical offshore structural analysis packages. Coding skills (e.g. python) preferable.

You will have a driving ambition to grow Arup’s position in offshore wind engineering design, using your technical competence and experience to establish credibility with Arup’s customers.
