Our Science and Healthcare Engineering team - Buildings London 1 - have an opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to join our established team. The candidate should be driven, focused and excited by technically challenging work on cutting-edge projects.
 
Buildings Engineering 1 acts as a centre of excellence for Science and Healthcare buildings engineering, within the wider Buildings Engineering London team.  Our work focuses on technical buildings for which the engineering drives the overall building design.  This includes laboratories, hospitals and healthcare facilities, data centers, specific energy and commercial projects, and particular industrial projects with a technical focus.
 
Our portfolio of recent projects in Building Engineering 1 includes laboratory projects numerous University of Cambridge laboratory projects, the Francis Crick Institute, Astra Zeneca Cambridge, Dublin Childrens’ hospital and numerous data centre projects for some of the largest technology companies in the world.
 
The Building Engineering Teams in London are currently involved with over 100 projects world-wide from concept design through to practical completion covering railways, airports, commercial, residential, hotels, sports stadia, swimming pools, museums, laboratories and many other specialist building types.

We are looking for an enthusiastic engineer with excellent modelling, design, technical, and software skills who enjoys working collaboratively in multi-professional design teams, taking responsibility for projects from inception to completion to achieve outstanding results. 
  
You will be chartered with solid or extensive experience in the field of Building Services Engineering, with a heavy focus on expert use of analysis software and digital design tools in the built environment.
 
You will be committed to your own professional development and looking for challenging work to develop your engineering skill. 
 
Skills and Capabilities
  
Essential:
  • Degree qualified in Mechanical or HVAC Engineering, ideally to Masters level
  • Have achieved Chartered Engineer status via an appropriate professional institution such as CIBSE or the IMechE.
  • Proven experience in science and laboratory facility design and good knowledge of  standards and best practice, including a varied portfolio of medium to large scale completed projects with experience across a range of project scales and other building types
  • Knowledge of current regulations, best practice and emerging technology
  • Experienced in sustainable building design and in satisfying the regulatory and voluntary codes associated with sustainability and energy strategy
  • Ability to think outside your specialism and integrate multi-disciplinary requirements into holistic co-ordinated solutions
  • Demonstrable enthusiasm in driving a Digital transformation in the design process, including automation via software such as Revit to deliver organisational value, as well as utilising visualisation tools to communicate engineering concepts 
  • Able to understand the balance of engineering priorities on differing projects
  • Able to quickly develop successful client relationships
  • Experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams
  • Proven people management skills and experience of managing staff at all levels
  • An ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines is essential
  • A good understanding of industry software packages such as Excel, IES/TAS and Revit
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills
  • Excellent communications skills, written and verbal
  • Able to demonstrate strong commercial awareness 
  • Highly motivated and willing to take on new challenges
  • Familiarity with design guides published by ASHRAE, Uptime Institute and TIA942 which govern data centre design
Desirable:
  • Experience of site-based projects
  • Design project management for science and laboratory projects
  • Experience of Revit for 3D modelling and rendering of building services, and BIM analysis including performance calculations and parametric modelling.  Experience of collaborative modelling environments.
