Senior Mechanical Engineer

Arup’s Building Services Engineers tackle diverse challenges – from sustainable strategies to fire suppression systems, mechanical design and CFD analysis for data center project, and from drainage in high-rise buildings to supplying ultra-pure water and piping specialist gases and fluids forhealthcare,science and industryfacilities. Together with ourmechanicalandelectricalengineers, we provide integrated building services to our clients. 

As a Mechanical Building Services Engineer, you will play a key role in our Building Services Engineering team, contributing to multidisciplinary projects. You’ll provide guidance to graduates and oversee the work and development of apprentices involved in your projects. Based in our Amsterdam office, you’ll be part of a team of over 20 mechanical engineers and technicians.

Minimum Qualifications:

We are looking to speak to people who: 

  • Have a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Architectural Engineering. You will either be chartered, working towards chartership or be keen to work for a company who will support you through your chartership journey. 
  • Have a demonstrable background in the field of mechanical building services design with knowledge and interest in sustainable building design in terms of both energy and carbon.
  • Are proficient in BIM environments, particularly using Revit, and have experience with dynamic thermal modelling (preferably IES, etc.). 
  • 5-8+ years’ experience, most of which will be in design gained within a consultancy environment 
  • Team player, organized and adaptable with a flexible approach to work 
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines 
  • Brings experience in Mechanical Building Services design for design of HVAC, public health etc. of medium to large-scale projects, including calculations and report writing. 
  • Excellent communication skills 
  • Developing knowledge of relevant standards and regulations 
  • Experience in the design of the main Building Services Mechanical systems such as HVAC, public health, etc. 

Key Differentiators:

  • Experience in science, industry and technology (SIT) projects 
  • Knowledge of Dutch codes, standards and permitting requirements 
  • Revit experience 
  • Have successfully attained professional qualification or more related work experience 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Mechanical Services design on SIT/Building projects while working closely with the other discipline leads 
  • Work with and manage junior mechanical engineers and BIM modellers on your projects 
  • Responsible for work produced by other people or key parts of tasks/work 
  • Leading small projects 
  • Project planning 
  • Conceptual design studies and reports 
  • Detailed design of Mechanical Services and Installations 
  • Compilation of Specifications for Mechanical Services and Installations 
  • Ensuring full co-ordination between specifications, drawings and BIM models 
  • Client presentations and engagement 
  • Liaising with architects, clients and other stakeholders to set the constraints of the mechanical design and co-ordinate with all other disciplines in terms of the mechanical requirements and the mechanical discipline’s influence on all others.
