The Opportunity

We have a new role to assist in the delivery of a broad range of maritime and port advisory projects on time and to budget, including; technical feasibility and master planning studies, conceptual design, and technical due diligence. You will provide highly responsive maritime advice service to all Arup offices along with assisting in the preparation of fee proposals and winning work with a focus on ports advisory, technical due diligence and master planning studies.

Responsibilities will include supporting the team discipline lead in the delivery of port advisory, technical due diligence, and master planning services; Assisting in the project management of multi-disciplinary teams to deliver projects within time and budget; Support Arup Business Investment Advisory teams (BIA) during the delivery of technical due diligence services included some international site visits. Key deliverables will include an assessment of asset condition, maintenance requirements, review of operations, potential cargo capacity enhancing strategies (incl. infrastructure and equipment) and their associated costs; Participate in team management meetings, resource planning, project briefings and project performance monitoring; Network internationally within Arup (business trips with UK and overseas would occasionally be required); Support development of internal training and business within the ports advisory space.

Is this role right for you?

The suitable candidate will be Degree qualified: Engineering Degree or equivalent./ Working towards Chartered status through ICE or other relevant body.  You will confident in the design, construction support and management of projects in the ports and maritime sector.

We are looking for the following skills and knowledge:

  • Skills in undertaking technical condition assessments of port assets, production of associated reports and delivering presentations of findings.
  • Ability in reviewing port spatial requirements with a focus on operational, and technical factors.
  • Experience in developing project construction and maintenance cost estimates including infrastructure and equipment.
  • Good understanding of port operations and of cargo handling equipment.
  • Understanding of the key drivers behind port site selection including environmental conditions, hinterland connectivity and commercial factors.
  • Understanding of port automation vs conventional operations, pros/cons, impact on spatial planning, infrastructure/ utility provisions and cost.
