The Opportunity

As a Senior Highway Engineer at Arup, you’ll play a key role in delivering a wide range of transport and highway projects. You’ll work across design, coordination and project management — leading the development of drawings, reports, calculations, BOQs and specifications, and ensuring work meets technical and contractual standards. You’ll collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, support bid preparation and contribute to high‑profile schemes across the region.
This role offers the chance to shape successful highways projects from feasibility through to detailed design and statutory processes. You’ll help maintain strong client relationships, work to tight deadlines and support the delivery of projects on time, within budget and to the highest quality. Experience with NEC contract preparation or project management is beneficial, and you’ll have opportunities to expand your skills in both areas.

At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas. You will have the opportunity to do socially useful work that has meaning to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.

Is the role right for you?

You’ll thrive in this role if you bring:

  • A relevant HND, degree or master’s qualification.
  • Experience using industry‑standard software (e.g., Civil 3D, AutoCAD, AutoTrack, PDS Line, MicroDrainage).
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex issues, write clear reports and manage client relationships.
  • Professional qualification or progress toward one with a relevant institution.
  • Enthusiasm for transport and highways design, with an understanding of project delivery across the full lifecycle.

This role does not meet the criteria for visa sponsorship under the UK immigration system. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK
