Our Ground Engineering team is the largest in Ireland, bringing together hydrogeologists, contaminated land specialists, engineering geologists, and geotechnical engineers. We deliver innovative, industry-shaping solutions for a diverse portfolio of complex multidisciplinary projects across Ireland and the wider European business.
The Opportunity
This is an opportunity to take a leading role within a highly specialised team, delivering challenging geotechnical designs and advisory services across a wide range of sectors.
You will work on some of the most significant infrastructure and development schemes in the region. This role offers excellent prospects to broaden your skills in project leadership, client management, and team development. You will have the platform to contribute to industry-shaping work, including supporting the development of national standards through our role on the TII Standards Commission.
As a Senior Geotechnical Engineer at Arup, you will:
- Lead geotechnical design and construction support for major international commissions, including hyperscale data centres across Europe, commercial towers in Albania, and landmark infrastructure like the Fehmarnsund Link.
- Deliver geotechnical solutions for nationally significant Irish infrastructure, such as Metrolink, DART+, the N6 Galway Ring Road, and the N4 Carrick-on-Shannon.
- Provide expert geotechnical input and advisory services for educational, pharmaceutical, industrial, and commercial developments throughout Ireland.
- Manage project delivery, budgets, and client interactions, ensuring high-quality technical outcomes.
- Support our senior leaders in expert witness work and act as a mentor to guide and develop junior engineers within the team.
Does this role inspire you?
We're looking for a talented and proactive engineer with strong technical skills in geotechnical design, ground investigation, and interpretation. We also value:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Civil, or Structural Engineering, with over 6 years of post-graduate experience in geotechnical design and/or construction. A post-graduate qualification in Geotechnical Engineering or equivalent is an advantage,
- Demonstrated technical expertise in deep excavations, foundations, earthworks, and slope stability, alongside proficiency in numerical analysis and GIS.
- Proven experience in planning, managing, supervising, and interpreting complex ground investigation contracts.
- Excellent communication and report-writing skills, combined with the commercial acumen to effectively manage project deliverables, budgets, and client relationships.
- A commitment to continuous professional development, ideally working towards (or having achieved) Chartered status with a professional engineering organisation.
