The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our team based in London. The role is set in a multi project, multidisciplinary and multicultural environment. We’re looking for candidates with curiosity, personal drive and technical knowhow.
You will work in the geotechnics team within the wider Infrastructure London Group, delivering a broad portfolio of projects from local site developments to major infrastructure schemes. The role will require geotechnical analysis and design, site supervision of piling and ground investigation works, production of specifications and reports and supervision of more junior members of the team. There is also the potential to lead small projects or teams. You will be accountable for the high quality of your own work, to time and budget, and that of team members as applicable. You can expect daily contact with other Arup disciplines as well as regular contact with clients and contractors.
Essential Skills & Experience
· Experience of working on geotechnical projects in the UK or abroad.
· MEng. or Civil Engineering-based degree with post graduate qualification in a geotechnical related subject, preferably Soil Mechanics. Chartered with a relevant body
· Significant experience in geotechnical analysis and design delivery, including use of geotechnical software and familiarity with UK standards, specifications and guidance.
· An interest in the application of the Observational Method and Real Time Back Analysis whilst not essential for the role would be a significant benefit
· Ability to quickly develop successful client relationships (both internal and external)
· Ability to work under pressure and to meet strict competing deadlines. Excellent planning, organisational and time management skills
· Willingness to encourage and engage in technical collaboration and skill development within the team
· Able to work in a multi project, multidisciplinary, multicultural environment
· Understanding of sustainability, and a desire to constructively challenge in order to improve the sustainability of projects
Desirable Skills & Experience
· Experience of sustainability in geotechnics, for example: working within a carbon management framework such as PAS 2080, embodied carbon estimation, implementation of green and blue infrastructure, foundation re-use.
· Understanding of advanced soil mechanics and soil structure interaction
· Site experience in a geotechnical role, e.g. ground investigation, piling, earthworks.
· Existing knowledge or a desire to learn numerical modelling techniques including Plaxis 2D or 3D
· Experience in using digital tools to improve efficiency and communication of design. Including text-based programming in python and visual programming.
