We seek a talented and enthusiastic experienced Flood Business Case specialist to join our growing Water team in West of UK (Cardiff and Bristol although the location is flexible). An exciting opportunity is open to support delivery of a growing portfolio of impactful flood risk management, resilience and climate change adaptation projects for leading clients such as the Environment Agency, Natural Resources Wales and other risk management authorities. 

Our team comprises 55+ dynamic and passionate engineers and specialists working collaboratively with colleagues across our multidisciplinary firm. With secured frameworks, we have a growing forward pipeline of opportunities with clients who share our passion for shaping a better world. You'll help us deliver effective and professional services for various and high-profile clients on projects ranging from those on a local scale to those with National significance. 

What is the role?

We have an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in delivering a comprehensive and growing portfolio of impactful projects in the water and flood risk management sectors. We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic Business Case specialist to join our dynamic and growing team. We seek an individual excited by the challenge of driving innovation, pushing the boundaries of excellence. 
The candidate will join our teams in Cardiff or Bristol, but the location is flexible. Typical duties would include:

•    Leading the production of FCERM business cases and supporting the development and apprasial of FCERM options.
•    Flood Risk Assessments.
•    Survey specification.
•    Preparing technical reports and specifications. 
•    Develop and liaise with clients and partners.
•    Managing budgets and change.

The post offers excellent career prospects with considerable scope for personal skill, flood scheme expertise and team management development. The focus will be on developing your technical skills and relevant experience of managing tasks with project experience and enhancing the Arup capability as a whole. You will be interacting with and advising other engineers, specialists, managers and clients and reporting on work progress, bids and strategic delivery coordination across our UK offices. There may be also opportunities for short-term placements in other offices as business needs allow and, in time, overseas. 

To achieve in this role you will have…

  • Masters or Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field
  • Full/chartered member of a professional body

Required knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Demonstrable experience in flood risk management, water company sector, business case and economic appraisal, risk and resilience, climate change adaptation, water regulatory, sector or similar.
  • Understanding of the principles of flood and coastal risk management projects.
  • Experience working in and leading multidisciplinary teams and client/stakeholder liaisons.
  • Experience of managing large projects and/or portfolios of projects.
  • Client engagement.
  • Experience of HM Treasury Green Book
  • Experience in using GIS software such as ArcGIS.
  • Effective planning and organizational skills.
  • An ability to multi-task efficiently under pressure and maintain a high level of attention to detail. 
  • Understand the needs of your clients and colleagues.

Desirable knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Complementary skills and experience are desirable including:
  • Coding and hydraulic modelling
  • Green economy and six capitals business cases.
