Senior Facades Technical and Existing Buildings Specialist

The Melbourne office is currently seeking a Senior Facades Technical and Existing Buildings Specialist. As a part of the Buildings team, this role will undertake consulting services within facades diagnostics and existing buildings space, and be a part of a diversely skilled local and global team of facade specialists working on a number of high profile and impactful projects.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Knowledge and technical experience in facades, ideally in a consulting environment.
  • Specialist knowledge in an area of facades such as:
    • Materials - curtain walling, glass structures, stone, concrete, brickwork terracotta and heritage materials
    • Building diagnostic and remedial works - condition/safety inspections, water leakage investigations, remedial options analysis and contract documentation & supervision
    • Building refurbishments of existing stock - including strategic and technical advice
    • Building envelope design - including passive design techniques and integration with mechanical, electrical, structural acoustic etc.
  • Degree in structural engineering, science, architecture or another appropriate discipline or extensive industry experience.
  • IRATA Qualified Rope Access Technician.
  • Eligibility for Chartership with the Institute of Engineers (Australia) – IE Aust, or chartership with equivalent associations or professional accreditation/registration equivalent in qualified professional area.
  • Software skills – Word, Excel, Publisher, AutoCAD and Sketchup.
  • Skills in programming and design software tools such as Rhino or Revit would be desirable.

About the role

Working closely with the wider Facades and Buildings team, in this role you will manage projects and develop relationships with key clients to:

  • Co-ordinate and where appropriate participate in inspection of existing buildings, via rope access, and other means of access, and prepare reports recording condition and proposed repair and maintenance works.
  • Undertake technical reviews of projects and instigate action plan to remediate any technical issues to Facades discipline lead.
  • Provide technical leadership across projects involving existing buildings portfolios.
  • Provide input into combustible façade related matters, including input into potential claims; co-ordination of remediation works and co-ordination of new work within Arup’s global combustible cladding policies.
  • Actively participate in regional forums for combustible cladding policy balancing key policy and business initiatives.
  • Prepare project reports for clients summarising key issues and strategically advising on best outcomes.
  • Presenting report findings to clients and attending site to inspect rectification works.
  • Provide concept and detailed design work across a broad range of projects.
  • Manage post tender, site inspections and report writing.
  • Lead the technical / design input on projects, ensuring high work quality, performance of projects, and healthy project budgets.
